I have an 18-month-old DSH male cat, he is mainly white with red shipped tabby markings on his head & upper back. When we found him he was wondering outside, a stray. He (Finn) was about 3 or 4 weeks old, still had blue eyes (for another week), weighed less that 1-lb, and had trouble eating canned cat food. At 18-months Hes long, and slim (8-lbs) with a little head. I've been told that that white cats, as well as red cats tend to be bigger than average. Why isn't he bigger? Was he the runt of his litter? Could his size be the result of poor prenatal care? He eats well, he eats 2 6-oz can of cat food a day & is very active. Will he ever look like an adult cat?

I don't think white cats or red cats tend to be bigger than average. Coat colour doesn't have anything to do with the size of a cat. It depends on what size his parents were.

8Ib to 11Ib is the average weight for a domestic cat. So your boys weight sounds normal to me. He's still young at the moment so he will probably fill out a bit more as he gets older.

Hi to Nan-c and Finn:) Finn is lucky that your paths crossed and, as previously mentioned, he seems to be the perfect weight. One things though, does he only eat canned food? Adding dry food to his daily diet will keep his teeth healthy. It doesn't have to be expensive, just nutritionally balanced.
