hi again! I am planning to have my cat dewormed tomorrow but i've got few questions. the only time she met a vet was when she had earmites (gone now :) ) so i am planning her to have dewormed. i dont know how to say this but i dont have any idea on what i'm doing. :D (sorry) but should i just go there and say i want to dewormed my cat? are there any vaccines that i have to give her? what are the other things that i have to do aside from deworming? i've also read that i have to have her spayed. when should i do this. she was born sept (dont know the exact date) now's feb so im assuming she is five months. i really need some advice here :D Thank you :)

Deworming, vaccines and spaying are all good ideas. Just say you want her dewormed, and have her rabies and distemper shots. You might want to get her tested for leukemia and FIV if you got her as a stray and if you ever plan on getting other cats to protect them all. And you should get her spayed pretty soon, before her first heat cycle preferably. Most vets want the kitten to be at least 4lbs and between 4-6 months old, so she is in that age range to get spayed.

well if it's her first time for shots, they usually do one round the first time she goes in, then another round when she'll get spayed, then you're good with shots for a year. they can deworm her with the first round of shots and she only needs to be dewormed once if you don't plan on her going outside

So she had her first shot yesterday. For deworming. After that she had been constantly licking and scratching! Especially on her back. I try to search for fleas but none. The vet gave her a liquid medication and some got into her fur (she keeps struggling when medication was given to her, orally) so i was thinking if this maybe whats causing the licking and scratching. Maybe i'll give her a bath??? Also aside from that she keeps sneezing and her nose is moist. All of these occured after the deworming. Or is she maybe allergic?? I AM VERY WORRIED :(

she could be having a reaction to the medication, you could try to clean her fur off so she stops licking and scratching at the area. I'd call the vet in the morning and tell them what's going on and ask what could be the reason and if you should worry and what should be done

I cleaned her with cotton soaked in water that day (i dontwant to give her a bath cause she just had one 2days maybe before that) she still scratches but then it subside. Tha next day, she still scratch and lick too but very minimal compared that day of deworming. Still scratching occassionaly and maintaining cleaning her with cotton soaked in water. I guess it was the medicine. She seems to be better now. Thank you so much for your advice. I'll still be observing her to make sure :) also it's been like 2days after deworming but then i havent seen any worms/live worms on her feces (i really don't want to see it though) is that normal? :D sorry for too many questions but then again i want to give you a big thank you for giving me advice :)

well it could just mean that she has no worms or it could take several days for them to appear, deworming can be used as a precaution since no one knows any of her medical history or where she came from. I always get any new cats of mine dewormed, tested for diseases and vaccinated cause I don't want them to infect any of my other cats or go untreated and suffer from anything they might have.

well I'm just glad you're taking the advice and doing what's best for your kitten's health :) I know everything can get pricey, it could help to get pet insurance if that's something you're interested in. The one I have for my adult cats will reimburse me for cancer treatment or any diagnosis or blood work if they find something wrong, my kitten has extra coverage that includes wellness exams and such, so blood work, tests, vaccines and a spay is all included in that. there's also coverage for accidents but my cats don't go outside so I didn't get that. it's up to you if you get any, was just telling you some options :)

it would be nice to get one but unfortunately we don't have it here in our country (PH). There used to be a company or something that offered it here but I guess it did not BOOM so it closed. too bad. but really, thank you for all the advice. my kitty is fine for now and i hope she stays as she is. but if ever something happens I'll be bothering you again next time haha kidding :D bye for now :) THANK YOU!!!
