My cat wont keep any food down. She will drink water but besides that she eats her food, then throws it up along with some yellow stuff.

It started yesterday during the day she had watery eyes and was acting shy and more quiet then usual. But she was eating and going to the restroom

normally. But about 4 in the morning I heard coughing and throwing up. She wanted to eat but kept throwing it up like 5 minutes later. So from 4am to now it is the next day at 11pm at night. She has not ate anything, she has an appetite she comes up to me and wants me to feed her like usual, but she cant keep it down. She has had water today. Also, she has not gone to the restroom yet. which is unusual she always goes 2x a day. She has just been sleeping a lot more. Not as active. She is wagging her tail and purring when i pet her. She played a little today. But was mostly tired. I have an appt. for the vet to see whats wrong. I am currently staying up with her tonight to make sure she is ok. Do you think she will be ok till the morning? Also, i don't know if i should feed her because she is just going to throw it up anyway and i don't want to make her more dehydrated? Or should i go ahead and let her eat even though she is going to throw it up? Please help i don't know what to do, i just gonna stay up and keep my eye on her till the morning. I love her so much i cant bear the thought of losing her. What do you think is wrong with her??    Thanks!

if this helps any she is 9 years old. I have had her since she was a few weeks old. She has never had any problems except for being overweight a little.

She is an only indoor cat and eats only iams weight control. will not eat wet food.

you could try feeding her very small amounts to see if that will help, just a few bits of kibble and wait awhile to see if she throws up, if not, repeat. and good idea with the vet apt, couldn't hurt to see if anything's really wrong with her.

Hopefully you have gotten her to the vet by now. Not being able to keep any food down is often a sign of an obstruction which needs prompt medical attention. Many vibes for your kitty to feel better soon.

I'm assuming you've already seen the vet by now and I really hope your girl is okay but in case it will help someone here is my answer:

Vomiting like this can have several causes. One possible cause, especially when it's accompanied by lack of bowel movements, is an intestinal obstruction. An intestinal obstruction is VERY SERIOUS and should be treated immediately. It can be fatal! An obstruction is caused by your cat eating something that gets stuck in the intestines, preventing food and water from moving through. Vomiting is the most common symptom, especially after eating. If the vomiting is frequent it's definitely a cause of concern and the cat should see a vet right away. This is an emergency so please go to an emergency vet if it's after hours. Often a vet can tell that the cat may have an obstruction by feeling the stomach but a diagnosis is made with an x-ray. Sometimes meds can be used but in other situations surgery may be necessary. The sooner you get help the better.

Another serious cause of vomiting is poisoning. Your cat can have gotten into some kind of household product. This is also an emergency.

When a cat, or anyone, is vomiting you should NOT FEED THEM any amount of food. Vomiting is very irritating to the stomach so it's best for the cat to allow him to fast for 24 hours if he's vomiting. After 24 hours you can try to feed small amounts of an easily digestible food. If water causes vomiting it's best to remove the water too for a period of time, a few hours or so, and then give it in small quantities. If the kitty can keep the water down allow him to drink. However, if you suspect an obstruction you should not let the cat ingest anything.

Please update us on how your kitty is doing if you get a chance. I hope she's better.

OK, I'm remembering this from a LONG time ago, so you'll want to google this.  Many times it turns out to be a hairball blocking the bottom of the stomach or maybe it was the top of the stomach.  If the food doesn't look digested at all, it will probably be a hairball, I was told by a vet.   Even if you don't see the hairball come up - it may take many tries for the kitty to vomit it up or pass it, but in the meantime, up comes the just eaten food.  But when I just googled the issue, it turns out sometimes a hairball can be so big it's a serious obstruction.  Usually not, but could be.

I hope you took your kitty to the vet, throwing up is not a good sign.  It can indicate a lot of different problems.  If it's immediately after eating, it could be an obstruction.
