Hello all,

My vet recommended PEPCID to my cat with renal insuficiency last month.

I gave him 1/4 of 10mg every morning during a week, and he started eating again. Then I stopped giving him PEPCID and now is not eating much. So, today I started giving him 1/4 of PEPCID again.

My question: Is PEPCID for life, (like the Fortekor)? or just a temporary medication while his stomach doesn't feel good?

Thank you for your time.

P.S: My cat's case: http://www.thecatsite.com/t/271179/renal-insufficiency-and-proteins

You can give Pepcid for life.  One thing about antacids is they stop the production of acid in the stomach so if you or a kitty go off of them it starts the vicious cycle of the acid buildup, which is why a lot of the times they are needed long term

Thanks for your reply.

What I will do is, give my cat 1/4 of PEPCID everyday for 10 days, and then I will probably continue giving it to him one other day. I will see.

I just don't want to give him so much medication. He is already taking Fortekor.

I'm lucky however, that my cat has no problems swallowing pills at all.

Thanks again.
