This winter has not been good to my skin. I've been drinking more water and lotion if often. I've been finding more dry patches on my knees and arms lately.

What do you do for dry cracking skin?

Here in Alaska the harsh climate is not kind to peoples' skin- I use Eucerin lotion and I make sure to keep a small bottle with me handy in my purse.

I have dry chapped skin mainly on the back of my hands from the brutal cold weather we've had this year, I am so ready for this winter to be over.  I have some body butter from Bath and Body Works which helps a little and I use hand made soap which I think is easier on sensitive skin.  I still have some chapping on the back of my hands, I think it will probably be there until we either get a long break from the bitter cold or spring gets here.

George's dry skin cream is amazing. It's pretty greasy, but there is also a light version which is good for everyday use when you don't want greasy hands.

I use Miracle Hand Cream (available at Bed, Bath and Beyond).  It isn't greasy and works very well.  I've always had dry skin and this is the first product I've used that worked so well.

My skin has been really drying out (I've just had a call from the doctor with blood test results, saying my thyroid hormones are low, so that will be why)

I'm so impressed with the cream my SS, jcat, sent me.  It's the pomegranate by Weleda.  I'm using the skin lotion generally and the hand cream and I love it.. it's  smooth and not heavy or greasy but does the trick.

I'm beginning to sound like a Weleda rep!

DD has eczema and it feels like we've used a bunch!  If they don't do much for her; I get them!  She's starting to outgrow the worst of the eczema; but still gets rough patches on her legs that itch if we don't keep them lotioned enough.

My favorites; CerVe cream and the lotion.  I use the cream on DD's legs and lotion on the rest of her.  DH is exposed to the weather and his hands and knuckles really dry out in the winter.  His favorite is the Aveeno Skin Relief overnight cream.  Other favorites are Eucerin, callendula cream (more soothing than moisturizing), regular aveeno lotions and one from Jergins for itchy skin.  I can't think what it was called specifically.  I'm not a huge fan of Lubriderm; but some people seem to like it.

I've always heard good things about cocoanut oil but I've not gotten around to trying it.  I really like Dove's Cream Oil body washes.  I do noticed a difference especially on my legs with how much lotion I need in the winter.

Yes, I remember when that happened. .

It could easily be the problem if they haven't got your thyroxine quite right.

No thyroid here, either.  I always had low thyroid function, so skin cracking is common in winter.  My medication is adjusted now but that is something that's always changing.  Keep your eye on that!

Vaseline would be good to use at night, especially on the hands and feet. Put socks on afterwards and go to bed.:lol3:

They've upped my meds because I was feeling run-down and achy and always hungry. Now I am losing hair and dry skin, but I feel physically better. They're overshooting it a bit with my meds now but they said its OK. bleh.

I'm going to go to Harmon later and see what lotions they got for me try, based on the suggestions here.

Oh, Socks to bed? my feet sweat too much! lol
