Does anyone feed their cats the Simply Nourish canned food? If so, how many cans per day does your cat eat? I think I have finally found a canned food that my cat loves, but it is a little expensive and it says to feed 3 1/2 cans per day. I cannot afford to spend that much on cat food. I was hoping to only have to feed him 2 cans per day at the most. Of course, he is 17 years old and has not been eating even a 3 oz. can of other cat food, but he loves the simply nourish and he may eat more of that. Will 2 cans be enough?

How many ounces are in a can? I think the Simply Nourish come in 3oz cans? Most adult indoor neutered cats need about 20 calories per pound of ideal body weight. Depending on the food, it usually works out to be about 5-7 oz of wet food daily. So 2 cans are probably just right. Most manufacturer recommended feeding guidelines are too high.

The cans are 3 oz. But, the calories per can is between 53 -67 calories per can, I think. So would 2 cans be enough? Other canned cat food has a lot more calories per can than that. It figures that I finally find a food he will eat and it's one of the more expensive ones! I will be spending over $100 a month if I give him 3 cans per day!

That is pretty low calorie per ounce. How much does he weigh and how active is he? Most cats will need at least 15 calories per pound, so it sounds like he will need more than 2 cans a day. Can you mix some of the cheaper higher calorie pate foods with the Simply Nourish? Enough to get him the additional calories but not too much so that it still smells and tastes like Simply Nourish?

Right now he weighs 9 lbs., but most of his adult life he weighed around 14 lbs. He has not been very active at all. The last few weeks he has been sick with a bad tooth, so he stopped eating. He is doing better now, but he is used to dry food, so it has been a struggle getting him to eat wet. He does like the Simply Nourish chicken stew, though. Last night I gave him a can of Iams and he ate all of that, which is good, considering he hasn't been eating and is being picky, too. So, maybe I could give him a can of Iams at one meal per day and the Simply Nourish at the other one. That would give him about 155-157 calories a day, if he eats all of it. Would that be enough for an old inactive cat? Or should I give him another can of either the Iams or the Simply nourish? Or, maybe half of another can? The Iams has, I think, 95 calories per 3 oz. can.

Use the calorie guideline Vball gave you and feed him between 15 - 20 calories per lb of body weight you WANT him to weigh.   At 9 lbs, if this is a good weight for him, i would think one can of Simply Nourish and one can of Iams (if it is indeed 95 calories per can) would be enough .  then if you see his activity level increasing, you could add in more food...maybe even larger cans...does Iams come in 5.5 oz cans?
