A relative of mine is going to need medical treatment for a few days, and his old cat (15 years old) only eats wet food.  My plan is to set up an automatic feeder with wet food in it, one that's designed with an ice pack and can feed a portion 5 times a day, and check on the cat once a day. It's the cat mate C50.  Normally, the relative feeds her 4 - 5 times a day, and she eats a tablespoon or two at a time. I think if I just set a bowl of wet food on a homemade frame with an ice pack on the bottom, the food will dry out after a few hours and she won't want it.  Any opinions? Anyone use these feeders for wet food? Thx!

I used to have a C50, but now use C20s as they don't cut-off the food (cover it) when the next feed starts. My kitty is on all wet and raw, but she tends to eat only bits at a time. Since she is not food-crazed, I do not want her to miss out on food as ahe was not hungry or interested at the time. Prior bridge kitties were obsessed and would be at the feeder before it even turned and try and open it. I just use 2 of them to get 4 feeds. The C50 only gives you four extra feeds, as the first feed must be done when you set it and the first tray is uncovered from start. Just something to be aware of.

If the cat you are feeding is very used to scheduled feeding and can become comfortable with the C50 before you use it, it can work. I would freeze the later portions of food and put them in frozen though. They ought to thaw by the later feedings (do a test run). The ice packs won't keep room temp or even fridge-cold food cold for that many hours.

Tape the battery into the bottom too...it can be dislodged and then the feeder won't work.

Well, gee whiz, two C20s is about the same price as a C50!  That sounds like a great idea!  I can even put a first feeding in an open  bowl on a icepack. Wow, thanks.
