I read from one of the threads on this site that dishwashing agent(called Dawn) helps to repel fleas?

Actually  I read in few other places something like this, that dishwashing detergent can work although some people protested and told me it can harm the cat if I bathed her with it.

I gave my cat a flea medication almost three weeks ago. And the fleas did start disappearing although one by one. But now they're all bursting out again. That medication isn't cheap. And brushing my cat or even the carpet with sodium bicarbonate doesn't seem to do much either. Also from where I live, I'm not sure if I'll find the right flea comb. :sigh:

I'm really worried and confused.

Am afraid you're going to have to start all over again, sounds like flea eggs lying around have hatched.. and no, please be careful about detergent. Perhaps ask your vet for advice before using anything that may harm your kitty?

I think too that you need to kill the fleas rather than repel them. I would try and get the money to get the medicine from the vet again - cheaper in the long run than a sick kitty is the way I look at it! Then I would recommend some proper flea treatment for the carpets and floors, going around all the rooms, especially along the walls and corners. Hoover it first, spray, then if it says leave it, throw away the bag if you have a bag in the vacuum.  If a bad infestation, try a flea bomb?
Sorry you have this - we had the same thing. Gave him the meds which started to kill the fleas on him after about 24-36hours, but started to get them again in the carpets a couple of weeks later, despite me treating the room. Luckily they didn't go back on the cat, I guess his meds still were holding out. I went to the vets, saw the price of their very strong room spray killer and then bought it online half the price! Worked much better and not seen anything since. Best of luck, they are such a pain in the bum!

You're right about fleas nesting.
I gave my cat only half the dose like more than an hour ago.

The touch of the medicine makes her go really nuts and upset. I hope I can give her the rest tomorrow although this medicine came in a single dose capsule which means it should be disposed right after use. :( My cat still seems tense and I'm not sure about forcing her.

And another thing: I applied the medicine between her scruff and head because last time she was grooming her scruff where the medicine was. And she might have licked some of it away. Shall I continue applying the medicine in the same place?

Yeah, some cat's hate to feel wet! Back of the neck is the place to put it. It's not great that your cat licked some, normally the bitter taste will put them off or make them drool so keep an eye on her for any signs of illness.  Hopefully it wasn't too much as hard to reach there.  Yes, keep supplying the medicine, right at the back of the neck and try and distract her for a bit with play, food or something she loves to put her off grooming immediately? Worth a try.

I forgot yesterday to mention that it's also really important to wash your cat's bedding and places where she would normally curl up and sleep as well as your own bedding. This will be the prime spot for eggs! I didn't know if you knew this but thought I'd mention it anyway. I washed all ours and hoovered, sofa, mattress, floor - everything before room treatment and we still got them back, then I forgot that the cat likes to sometimes sleep on cushions on the sofa, so I washed everything that wasn't nailed down! Took ages ;-) Good luck to you!

...no. Actually I should have thought of that myself. But I gave her flea medication two times before and it did make an effect without needing to clean around or anything. Yet I think I should quickly get that carpet cleaned up before anything.

Ok. Just now I added few more drops on my cat's scruff and I had to do it really gently. She was quiet for few seconds then darted off. -.-

Do you think the half amount I added between the head and scruff is a great loss? -.- That's all I want to know.

I don't know. I would imagine that the does given by the manufacturers is the dose needed. Sorry I can't really answer your question, perhaps other folk will know better.

Just delt with fleas myself......don't waste time or money with otc meds and sprays. Get front line from the vet I paid 14 for a month supply, you must treat for 3 months. Around
2 months all the fleas were dead. Fleas can live for three months in your home and no amount of cleaning will get them all.

Coconut oil is a natural flea repellant.....among many other benefits both topically and orally.

Cleaning is very important as flea eggs can lay dormant for a very long time, months and months. They are 'activated' by movement and warmth - letting them know there's something to eat! This is why it's important to throw away any bag in a vacuum after hoovering the whole house, including sofa's and beds.   It was cleaning properly a second time with a very effective (veterinary strength) flea killer designed for rooms, instead of an off the shelf product which we used the first time. This I think that finally got rid of the flea's that had hatched and hoovering up the last eggs.  I didn't see another flea or bite on the cat after than second time, thankfully!

Do they have flea collars where you are? Do NOT put it on the cat, but put it in the vacuum cleaner bag and vacuum. Helps take some of them out.

I also buy the detergent booster calked BORAX it works great to kill them on the area rugs and in the couches and cushions. I add it to the wash for bedding ours and the cat beds to kill them. It is non toxic and does not hurt the cats. Use it for your bath rugs and towels etc too.
