Hello everyone. I haven't had a cat since I was living at home with my parents, but I've always been a big animal (especially cat) lover. So recently, to distract myself from the disappointment of not getting a job that I was really excited about, I went out to the local animal shelter and got a cat. Her name is Adaline (hence my username), and she is the sweetest girl ever. All of our cats when I was growing up were more the aloof types, but Addie is a really friendly cuddler and quite the talker as well, which is also new for me. It's a good thing she loves being petted, because her fur is so soft and she is so adorable that I can't keep myself from petting her all the time. I'm thinking this was a great decision on my part; she has really cheered me up and given me something to focus on other than my disappointment about the job.

Anyway, hello fellow cat-lovers, and here are a few pictures of my new baby.

Hi.  Welcome to the site.  Hee hee, Adeline looks like quite a character and has a lovely expressive way about her, from prwoling cat to come and cuddle me / play with me.
You will find plenty people here to relate to your love of cats, any conversations you happen to have with your chatter box, and what wonderful therapy cats are in our lives, especially when we have had disappointments to work through.  Her sweet photos have brought a smile to my face and I look forward to seeing lots more posts and photographs from you.

Thanks for the welcome! She has a very strong personality, that's for sure. Most of it involves asking to be fed or petted, the latter rather insistently at times. But she's really a sweetheart and she makes me smile and laugh all the time.

Welcome to you and to Adaline.  She is gorgeous and reminds me of my Mickey.  Same type of exploration in her blood.  They do get us to love them very easily and I am excited for you.  She sounds like she filled a place in your heart that you needed to have her fill.  I am sorry about your job but so happy you found her to help you.  There is nothing like a cat to get your priorities realigned.

I look forward to getting to know you both and hearing about Adaline and her exploits.

Oh, and I meant to say, the reason I signed up is because every time I've had a question--both before I adopted Adaline and after--and I've Googled it, eventually I ended up on TCS, and it's always where I got the most helpful information. So thanks to everyone already!

That's cool ! That's how I joined, too--I was looking for advice about an ill cat and found this site.  I'm sorry about your job.  I guess the upside is that you got Adaline--out of curiosity, do you think you would have gone to a shelter for a cat if you'd got the job?

Welcome!!

I definitely wouldn't have gone to that particular shelter on that particular day if I'd gotten the job. The new job would have meant moving, and so I would have waited until I was moved and settled in, and then I'd have gone to a shelter in the other city. As it is, it looks like I'll be staying where I am for a while, but at least now I will be staying put with some kitty companionship.

I've been considering getting a cat for at least 3-4 years, so despite how I may have made it sound in my original post, it really wasn't a spur of the moment decision. It's just that not getting the job was the final motivation to get me to actually do it instead of just endlessly considering it.

I understand what you're saying.  I was just thinking it's interesting how things happen sometimes....one door closes in life and another one opens.  I'm glad Adaline walked through one for you that day!

Yes, it's true. Under even slightly different circumstances, she wouldn't be here with me now, on the floor attacking the tube from inside a roll of paper towels like a lunatic.
