Hi Forum Moderator(s): I would like to submit a request for a sticky thread for Carrageenan free canned cat foods.

A reference point for those hunting the isles of 101 different brands/flavors etc. of foods.

Is that possible?

It can be a growing/modified sticky, since ingredients seem to change from time to time.  Also, I'm sure there are budget / mid-range / premium brands that have no carrageenan, so it could be a list to suit most anyone's budget.

thanks,

Marc

Thanks for that msgreenjeens.   Useful, yet perhaps a sticky thread placed at the top of the subforum would help - an ongoing ever changing list.  If that's too much work, I fully understand, or too congested etc. with stickies that can happen as well.

I'll put it out there for discussion  (with the team) and see what happens

Thank you.  Also limiting to "or guar gum" kind of cuts down the list a lot.

Yeah, but is guar gum a real point of contention, like carrageenan, I'm not sure.

If it is - based on offerings that remain with neither  - chances are those are going to be just 'premium' labels $.

I guess guar gum is for some people but I have to feed the cat something without going broke.  I suppose the gum issue could be addressed in parentheses or footnotes maybe if it's felt to be that important.  I hate to see so many exclusions because it doesn't leave much.

I don't understand how Fancy Feast can do it and all these other companies can't (leave out carrageenan).

Fancy Feast Classic is not exactly budget oriented option at $0.69 per 3 oz can x2 / day = $1.38

Reasonable yes, but not budget.   In Ontario, those FF sales are not often enough for my liking.

Other budget options for carrageenan free:

Petsmart - Grreat Choice Chicken Feast pate Classic - 3 oz

For Canadians -

PC extra meaty Turkey&Giblet pate (85g = 3 oz. size only, not the 2 larger sizes)

PC extra meaty Beef pate (85g size only)

You know, I'm going to whip up a spreadsheet sometime with the options at various price ranges. Otherwise this becomes a mess.

I wonder the same thing myself

Marc, I would gladly pay just $.69 for a 3 oz can after yesterday's outing.  I took my carrageenan free, low carb list over to a local natural pet food store to do a little shopping, and actually paid 2.18 for a 3 oz can
.  My cats are SO picky and I am desperate to find something my two former raw eaters will eat that I bit the bullet to try this one, and if they like it, then I can order it via the internet for a lot less.  But I needed quite a few varieties to test on them, and some were pretty expensive.  But NONE were under $1.88 (some were actually 5.5 oz cans though).   All that being said, I can usually find FF for around $.50 per can down here in Arizona, but my finnicky cats aren't all that fond of it.

BTW, I posted the thread in the Team Lounge about having a sticky on this subject, so we'll see what happens
