My Sally has been on Purina's probiotic for the past 15 days. The vet put her on it because of constant diarrhea along with a 5 day dose of antibiotics. I have never heard or used a probiotic before and have read what I can on the subject. My Sally's diarrhea is gone and Sally who is all black now has the shiniest and softest cost ever in the 8 years I have her. Is this from the probiotic? Sally also used to have a tick where she would pull at her coat on her back and she has since stopped doing that as well. Is it really possible? If these are the results can I give probiotic's to all my cats? I have 7 cats in total. I have read all the threads regarding probiotic's on TCS. Any disadvantages from using these as well? I have a 4 month old kitten up to a 20 year old Momma. Your reply is very much appreciated. Rose

Yes, probiotics are safe for everybody. Purina's product is not one of the better probiotics (although it seems to be helping!), and is fairly expensive, so you might want to go with something stronger. I think this one is pretty well liked: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00028P5PU/?tag=&tag=thecatsite

I'm not sure what was causing the tic so I can't say whether it's possible that the probiotic helped with that or not. But, hey, as long as she stopped doing it! :D Probiotics are definitely beneficial for gut health, which can affect a lot of things.

Actually, probiotics provide immune system support. If that "tic" was from an "allergy" reaction, it is entirely possible the probiotic helped with that.

So glad it helped!

I give the probiotic to which Willowy provided a link (above) to all of my cats daily. I give them 1/2 a capsule twice a day just sprinkled on their food. (My husband and I take it as well. ;) ).
