I posted this originally in the breeders forums. Is there any way to breed a defect out of a line of cats? Please see posted link for an explanation.

Well, you already got good information about the Manx gene. The answer to this question is pretty straightforward. The Manx gene is dominant, so any cat with the gene shows some kind of spinal abnormality. Don't use such cats for breeding!

Dominant genes are MUCH easier to breed out of a line than are recessive genes because they advertise themselves!
