I love this site and  I have been reading articles/threads like crazy so that I can figure out which canned foods are the best in quality. I am concerned about foods that contain carrageenan and I would like to avoid by products as well. Right now, I am feeding them Wellness canned food and I was feeding them the dry food as well, but I want to get rid of it entirely and use only wet from now on.I came across Tiki cat during one of my many searches and I wanted to see if anyone was familiar with this food. I would love to hear some of your recommendations for canned food. Thank you!!

I have been searching for the "perfect" food too and tried Tiki Cat Puka Puka Luau which seems to be basically shredded white chicken in broth. My cat likes it but it is expensive.  A lot of the Tiki Cat flavors are fish-based. I liked it better than Weruva which seemed to have very little substance although the cat did like it too.

We've used Wellness Kitten Food and I just tried the Wellness Beef and Chicken which she ate.  Of course she's been eating almost anything lately.  The Nature's Variety Instinct ones were well received but those are expensive.  She liked the beef which is at least one the lower priced ones.  I don't think the duck was a favorite but that's okay. There is a Wellness CORE that sounds good but it's getting up there in cost too and I don't think Petco had it. Beef/Venison/Something

I just ordered a variety of single cans of Hound & Gatos but we've had two kinds of that and she really didn't seem to do well on the chicken and the Lamb, Chicken & Salmon isn't a favorite. It is a good food on paper and not so expensive. Nearly everyone seems to be out of the rabbit right now.

Good luck.  I think I will get some Wellness and debate springing for some NVI.  I guess I should mention that we feed Fancy Feast Classics in between all these gourmet kinds.  She likes the chicken ones and the fish ones (don't really intend to get a lot of those) and will eat the turkey okay.  If I had unlimited funds, I'd probably just do the NVI with maybe an occasional treat of something else.

Tiki Cat is a good food, and the company is supposed to be introducing other non-fish flavors. The chicken varieties are good but pretty low in fat if that's a concern.

Gosh I hope so. My cats LOVED tikicat, but they have wicked allergies to all of their current proteins.

The others have summarized Tiki Cat pretty well, so I'll just add that it is very low in starch and addresses UTI concerns.

Thank you all for responding! I am trying to get some of my picky eaters to try healthier canned food that's free of garbage. I may have to mix things up a bit and try a few different brands. My cats used to love FF, but I stopped feeding it to them because I didn't think it was the best quality food. I still want to try premium brands, but I may mix in some FF as an occasional treat until they adjust to something new. At least FF is does not contain carrageenan. If they (FF) can make carrageenan free canned foods, I cannot understand why Wellness can't get on board!

Hello.  I have been feeding my cat the Tiki Cat  Chicken in Chicken Consomme for six months and he loves it.  It has no carbohydrates, which is excellent.  It does not contain gravy either, which is high in calories.   My cat is very picky, but he loves this food.   I do not feed him the fish varieties because of my concerns regarding toxins.   Every time I write to the company with a question regarding ingredients, etc, I receive an immediate response- whether it be by email or telephone.  However, I do eventually plan on incorporating raw food into his diet.  The shreds of chicken are fairly large for my cat, so I just cut them up with a knife and fork- or put it in the food processor.   I love the fact that this does not contain carbohydrates, which cats do not need since they are carnivores.  Their website is petropics.com

One other thing- Tiki Cat has a new line called Gourmet Carnivore- a few of the flavors contain organ meats, which I have read is important for cats to have in their diet.  I plan on giving my cat some of these new flavors because I read that cats can develop allergies to certain meats if they are only fed that exclusively- so I plan to rotate in some of the new flavors like turkey/ and chicken with liver

Fancy Feast doesn't have any carrageenan. Wellness does. Carrageenan is a seaweed extract.

FF is actually decent food, my cats have been eating it and they've been very healthy.

Tiki Cat is good, probably better than anything Purina makes.

Actually, its mainly the FF pates that are carageenan-free. Some of the chunky/shredded varieties will have carageenan.

Unfortunately, Tiki Cat is one of only two brands I've tried that Shelly turns down flat. She won't even touch it. I threw out an entire can of Puka Puka Luau last week. She eats Wellness OK, thankfully, so I give her that.

Unfortunately, Wellness has carrageenan which is not a great ingredient. It has been known to make colon cancer more of a risk.

I only feed them the classic pates. Friskies pates are kind of ok. No carrageenan and low grain, but some artificial stuff.

Our cats like the chicken Tiki recipes, too: I feed them the plain chicken, chicken with egg, and, occasionally, the chicken with salmon. They eat it all. They seem to like the large shreds of chicken and I like the fact that the cans are filled with meat rather than amorphous "gravy," like some of Weruva's foods.

I don't like giving my girls any fish or seafood products.  Occasionally, I'll buy a can of real salmon and give them a little as a treat, the one thing I've noticed is when I do feed then fish their feces smells bad enough to make one's eyes water.  I like to give them a variety of canned; Wellness, Trader Joe's (.69 a can), Merrick Perfect meal, and a lot depends on cost also.  Because I have two adult cats I buy the 5.5 oz cans and split between the two.  As a sidenote with the moisture in the food their coats are like silk and my shorthair looks like a wet seal, all shiny.  I don't care what the Vets say about feeding dry kibble to "clean teeth" which in my opinion is garbage, canned food is the best (if you can afford) for cats.

I looked at Tiki very recently as up until now it hasn't been available in my area. I find it is very comparable to Weruva, in that the ingredients are minimal, but it is also very low in fat like Weruva - Perhaps too low but then again, this might be good for kitties who need to lose a bit of weight. It would be good for Tiki to produce more varieties as right now there appears to be too many fish-based foods.

My cats love natural balance ultra and natural balance catatouille. First one pate second one stew like. Decent prices. They also like weruva Peking ducken and ff classic chopped grill and liver and chicken. All get rotated.
