My 11 month old cat was recently at the vet for a UTI and crystal build up and was put on a special wet food diet and antibiotics for at least two weeks. But Mylo recently woke up one day and decided he no longer likes wet food. Im afraid that he wont get enough nutrision since hes already sick and only eating a can or so a say when he should be eating 2 cans. Ive tried putting a little dry food in it to make him want to eat it more and Ive tried adding a little water and microwaving it to help it smell better and both work for a few bites and then hes done and wont eat it anymore.

Anyone have any tricks up there sleeve that might help get my oh-so-stubborn kitty friend to eat his wet food???

Do you mean that he won't eat the special wet food any more, or that he won't eat his regular wet food?

My cat just won't eat the prescription diet wet food for crystals. He would sooner starve himself than eat it. So I had to go the next best route and get as much wet food into him of any type that he will eat - wet food is important to help stop crystals redeveloping as it has so much more moisture than dry food.

Maybe crumbling some of his favorite treats on top will entice him to eat. Temptations treats are very appealing to most cats. They are kitty junk food, but getting him to eat is more important than worrying about extra carbs at this point. Or maybe try topping the food with a yummy snack like shredded deli meat chicken or what ever special human food he likes as a treat.

Will he eat his regular food? If he won't eat anything at all, it might be a sign that something else is wrong and require another trip to the vet.

I hope you can get him eating and feeling better soon.

Is he on the prescription wet and dry food?

There seem to be a variety of thoughts on food and crystals on here and elsewhere. I've read on this web site and elsewhere that some people feed any wet food rather than even the best dry food to stop crystals (because of the moisture content), so they opt for wet food even if not prescription. Most vets seem to prefer the cats to eat the prescription food, but if a cat won't eat it, then a cat won't eat it. I never understand why the prescription wet foods seem to taste so unappealing to cats - why can't they make these foods taste a bit better??

I have no real tricks to suggest as my cat just refuses to eat the prescription wet food (he had some bladder stones). He is a senior and a fussy eater, so in the end I decided that wet food was still better than dry food. He gets as much wet food of whatever make he will eat, and I supplement with the prescription dry food. Not saying that this is the best thing to do, but my cat would literally not eat even one bite of the prescription food so I had to give up or he would start losing loads of weight - and given his age, I have to be so careful that he stays healthy.

I put a bit of his fav kibbles on the wet food then he started eating it. Once he's used to the flavor, skip the kibbles.

Temptations have always worked like magic with any of my kitties too. Crush them with a fork and mash them into top of/mix them into the food so your cat won't be able to just pick out the treats. You may only need to use 2-3 treats. Bonito flakes also work well for some kitties.

If all else fails, I agree with another poster who said his favourite wet food of any kind might be better than nothing (or not enough) at all.
