Cat with bad breath again

My cat has issues with her teeth. We do not know how old she is, maybe 7 or 8. We have had her for almost 2 years and had to get teeth pulled two separate times for a total of about 9 teeth. The last  pulling was in the beginning of December 2013. I have noticed her breath seems to be smelling bad again. I looked into her mouth and her gums appear to be light pink just like they should be. She had blood work done before the last surgery and nothing wrong showed up. Any advice on what it could be. I really don't want to take her back to the vet if I don't have to. She hates it and it always causes problems with the other three cats when she comes back with the dreaded 'vet smell' on her.

Have you asked your doctor to do a Bartonella test?

If the bad breath was a clear signal the other times she needed her teeth pulled, I would have to think that it is the case again. I am surprised it's happening again so quickly, unless the vets missed a brewing problem, since the last extractions were so recent. Were x-rays taken in December of the entire mouth?

Cats should not have bad breath.  Your cat's teeth and gums may look clear but there could be a serious problem below the gum line or in her throat / other areas of her mouth.  There could also be a digestive problem but either way the breath is an indication of a serious problem that I think justifies discussion with your vet, and preferably further examiniation.

Throat infections and/or upper respiratory infections can cause bad breath.  Some cats just naturally have stinky breath, my cat Cedes breath can clear a room, she is perfectly healthy.  She just has stinky breath all the time.
