I have  tried 3 times. He goes berzerk, I cannot hold a cat as tight as I can and jam him through the door without injuring him or crushing his rib cage. Even after cutting his claws I end up bleeding . Any ideas? It is going to make me very sad to put this cat outside when he starts spraying because he is unfixed at 9 months.

First of all you never want to force a cat into a carrier as this will only frustrate the cat and turn the whole experience into something negative that the cat will forever avoid at all costs. You have to introduce the cat to crate loading very slowly and properly. The same with nail cutting. You don't want to injure yourself or the cat if they should struggle at the very moment that you are about to clip a nail.

The following link is to an article on how to properly introduce your cat to a crate : http://cats.about.com/od/amyshojai/a/training-cat-to-crate.htm

In order for a cat to tolerate having its nails clipped, there has to trust between you and the cat. This comes from taking things slow, and cultivating a good rapport between you and the cat. A good time to do nail clipping is when the cat is in a relaxed state. If you are calm, cool and confident, your cat will pick up on this and likely feel more at ease with the process.

Here are links to an article and video on nail trimming :

I agree with most of what One&1/2cats said but I also understand needing to get them in there NOW, what we do here where I sometimes help trap, spay/neuter release is get an oversize crate, stand it on end and drop the cat in, then quickly close the door and away you go.  Good luck!

Ander35, I'm going make a video this weekend of me doing my "cat insertion" carrier technique.  I've had repeated success with it over many years of crazy cat ownership.  Nothing is guaranteed, but you may want to give it a shot.  Please note that I totally agree that having your cat WILLINGLY go into the carrier is the best for all involved.  But sometimes that's just not possible.  I'll post the video to you hopefully within a few days.

I leave Oliver's carrier out and open sometimes and he'll play in it. If I know I'm going to be loading him into it, the day before I'll put it out. Last time I tried to put him in it, he wouldn't go. My daughter picked him up and he went right in! So it's a process I'm working on.

For nail clipping, I started by just touching his paws while he hung out in my lap. I did this for a couple of weeks. Then I clipped a nail one day while he was sleeping in my lap. He woke up but wasn't sure what had happened. Then I clipped another nail. He ran off. Later, I played with his paws some more and when he was really sleepy, I clipped another nail and also gave a treat. Over the course of a few days, he'd run off less and try to tuck his paws under him more, maybe because he knew he wouldn't get the treat if he left. Lots of pulling away when I'd try to clip, though. But he'd let me clip a few before stopping his cooperation. It's been about a month now and he lets me clip all his nails, though sometimes he'll be stubborn and try to pull away or tuck, but he'll eventually give (after a few seconds) and just let me do it, and get his treats, of course!

That first nail clipping, though... it probably took close to a week to get all the nails. Now I get them all in a few minutes. Just takes patience. Now if I could just get him to let me brush his teeth! That's not going well.

I leave the carrier out all the time so the cats are used to it and not scared to be put in it. I put treats in there sometimes and they sleep in it once and a while. My favorite carrier also opens at the top which is great.

My boy was giving me trouble putting him in his carrier last week. I ended up flipping the carrier vertically and dropping him in from his butt.

Have you tried wrapping him in a towel then dropping him in?
