Besides your real cats, name 3 things in your living room that tell a visitor something about you, without using any words....

I'll start:

My collection of horse figurines displayed on a bookshelf suggest a long association with riding & admiring these animals.
My Southwest decor on the walls, with Native Indian artifacts, depict a  love of the West & it's ancient heritage.

My variety of potted plants on the window sill, show a love of the beauty in nature.

  • My bookcase, overflowing with books, shows both my love of reading and my need for another bookcase.
  • Many photos of my children and my mother show how I value my family.
  • Ridiculous hodgepodge of deteriorating furniture shows my need for a good paying job.

A wooden cat figurine on an end table.
A stuffed orange cat on our dining room table.
A framed copy of the "Rainbow Bridge" story.

Wow - guess cats are my whole life!

Seven light house framed pictures on the wall

A framed hand painted picture of my grandparents house that stood here on this property at one time.

My guitar sitting on the rack.

Pictures of the children and grandchildren on the piano

Collection of Stephen King books and the DVDs collections of Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries (not sure what that says, but according to my son, it's not a good thing
I think it means that I like to read and watch DVDs
)

The cats' toy box and all the cat toys strewn about the living room

Hmmm, two cat trees blocking most of the window
big cat bed under a heat lamp in the corner
"nests" of throw blankets on both chairs and the sofa

 I dunno what a visitor could make of that! :lol3:

New question:

Name one or two wishlist items you most would like to assimilate into your living room, once your budget allows?

For me:

Have an eye on two gorgeous owl figurines dying to order... one Snowy & other Great Horned, both with wings extended dramatically. Will look cool among my Southwestern decor.

Toys.

Laundry (
)

Pictures of babies on the walls and a couple paintings.

I think my living room says "the kids own this room."  It's right too.

New items: A fireplace and built in bookshelves.  Right now all my books are in my foyer and 3 large, overflowing bookshelves!

I would love to have a fireplace, either in the living room or maybe in the bedroom. There's something so homey and comfortable (and dare I say, even sensual) about a fire when it's cold and snowy outside.  (We do have a fireplace in the plans for the new living room addition, but we have been kicking around putting one in the bedroom.)

Original question:
  • handmade furniture made by my father
  • family photos
  • cat paraphernalia (beds, toys, throws, scratch block, aluminum foil around one chair - doesn't everyone have that?, etc)
Second question:
  • there is an on-going debate in our house regarding replacing the carpet with hardwood
  • new hearth rug
