The cat was given to me in unusual circumstances. Regardless he is my cat. He is very exotic. I have a friend who has an f2 bengal so I know the behavior of one and how they have certain traits. Well my cat acts like a bengal. He is only 5 mths old and already weighs ten pounds. He has bengal traits but is marbled like a silver marble tabby. But one distinct trait he has is little tufts of fur on the tip of his ears like a maine coon. I could really appreciate it if some one could contact me and i can send pics of him and maybe get some answers????

Hi. I currently have been trying to determine my cats breed so I have been doing an enormous amount of research on cat breeds and genetics and I have some information I think you might be interested to know.

You asked if your cat was a bengal or a tabby, while bengal is a breed of cat while a tabby is just simply a cat with stripes.  A tabby cat is a reference to the markings and/or patterns on a cat. There are 4 different markings when it comes to the tabby pattern.

OMG, what a beauty! That's a classic tabby. I want to say the color is blue, but it could be lavender... requires more pics!

And those yellow eyes... just gorgeous.

We need more pictures really from front, side and top view to be able to help more.

His colour is silver classic tabby. But without more pictures I cannot say if he looks like a bengal or not

It's possible he has got some bengal in him. I don't think he is 100% pure breed. Your cat has ear tips which bengals are not allowed.

His colour is right he would be classed as a silver marble. Although his pattern is not as clear/defind as it should be for a bengal.

Face shape, eye shape and ear set is sort of right for bengal. Just them ear tips are all wrong

He's a gorgeous boy whatever he is. But I do think he has some bengal in him just not pure breed ;)

An old thread, but I thought I would chip in as people may use this to help identify their own cats.

First off I would have to say he is gorgeous!  :)
Also, he is a tabby...

The first picture full size shows a few clues, but looking at the other pictures help as well... While they do share characteristics this, in no particular order, is why I say tabby not Bengal:

Coat:
() He shows signs of tickling in his fur, this is found in Bengals but is more of a tabby trait
() He appears to  have an undercoat to his fur, Bengal coats are often described as 'more like a pelt' or 'like rabbit fur' ...because in Bengal coats the hairs are short and soft and all of the hairs the same type.  **

Markings:
() His coat appears very symmetrical. ALC's spotting is random and this randomness is carried into the Bengal breed, with spotted or marbled Bengals you would expect to see the random element played out to give non symmetrical body markings.
() Outlines... Again with Bengals you would expect to see three distinct shades of fur, a light base color, a darker marking color, and a very dark outline color.
() Bulleye! He does have the classic tabby bullseye mark on either side, this is very, very tabby  :)

() Belly... with EG or SBT Bengals you would expect or hope to see a light underbelly with evidence of spotting (reffered to as whited as opposed to white) not seen here, again not conclusive as many Bengals don't show this, the lower the filial generation, the less likely this is to been seen, but it is an objective of the breed.
() The classic tabby 'M' on his forehead is also present in many Bengals, but it is a trait with tabby roots.

Physical:
While many Bengals have lost some distinct physical characteristics of the ALC, here are some you'd expect to see.
() Hind legs, hard to see here, best observed with a pic of him standing on all fours, but his hind legs look normal tabby, in a bengal you would expect to see more muscular hind quarters with slightly longer legs

Head size/shape/etc can be a little different inside the Bengal breed, though again not quite a given.

-----  Not photographable  -----

There is also one big an unmissable characteristic that sets Bengals apart, and that is their voices! They are not just vocal but they will make a whole range of calls that you will never hear from normal domestic tabby! As I said before they do share characteristics, but if you have a Bengal you will be in no doubt from this alone!

All that aside, I still encourage others to send pictures!!
I could happily stare at pictures of tabby's or Bengals all day long

Now, as you know for sure his background, and KNOW he is half bengal, so you know.  You dont need to guess alike most others whom dont have papers nor background.   :)

We would like more pics, esp on his side!

I presume he got his "tabby" looks from dad the bengal, but do you know what mommy looks?

I see. So he got his tabby markings from dad, which isnt peculiar - tabby is dominant.

He seems to have some white spots, which isnt peculiar either, as the gene for white spots is too a dominant gene.

Its nice to see photos on the parents, but I would like to see a good photo of his side, to see how the tabby (bengal-tabby that is) pattern looks on the side of the body.

I have a five month Bengal he is a little tornado when he is awake, but very lovable. Loves following me around like a dog, hates being out of sight very vocal and loves his food. He is into everything very nosey.Hope you like my pics. I am new to this site and finding it very interesting.
