Okay my cat (named Kitty) got out on accident once about maybe 8 weeks ago, I'm not sure as it was awhile ago and she hasn't gone out since. Anyways about 2 weeks ago we realized she was getting heavy however she was only getting bigger on her sides, nowhere else. Since then she has become more affectionate which is weird considering she normally likes to be alone. Also, her nipples have gotten much larger and have been expelling A LOT of milk. We're pretty sure she had kittens moving inside her as we could both see and feel them. All of this information had me believing she was pregnant.

This is where I am starting to get nervous. About 3 days ago her vagina leaked a brownish and slimy fluid from her vagina ( i touched it by accident). I thought this was her mucus plug and got very excited for the new kittens but I am no longer sure. She bled for maybe the next 2 days ( the blood started at like 9 pm on Sunday and stopped on Monday - it was spots not full blown blood). She appeared to be nesting as she would move from closet to closet to the actual places I set up for her. She was also somewhat aggressive to the other animals - only for that one day though. Then everything stopped, she no longer bled and I could no longer feel the kittens however she continued to nest and continued to be affectionate.

Today, she began to bleed again, this time the blood was bright red and she remained in her nest majority of the day. The blood stopped but would come back every now and again, except not bright red. I still can't feel the kittens move, but her stomach seems tight in certain areas as if something is pressing against the skin. I thought I felt faint movement but I could be wrong. Also, I thought she was having contractions as she would breather calmly but then maybe every 15 minutes she'd start to breather heavy again and her lower belly felt as though it was vibrating and she would purr. Now however, none of these things are happening.

She has not discharged anything yellow or green or smelly fluids so she doesn't have an infection (at least I don't think she has one).

Please help! I am very concerned for my cat as I want to ensure she is okay! She got pregnant on accident and I feel really bad.

PS. She just ran back to her nest

Also i called the vet and he suggested simply sticking my finger into her vagina to see as he was closing and couldn't see her. I don't really want to do this as I am afraid I might make it worse or hurt her.

Also she doesn't seem to be in pain, she is acting quite normal. Still playing, eating,  drinking, sleeping. She's currently sitting next to me with her paw on my laptop lol.

How old is she? And the vet wasn't concerned about the persistent bleeding? I would have taken her to the vet as soon as the bright red blood started, but if the vet doesn't seem concerned... I don't know. It sounds to me like she needs an emergency vet, but I don't have experience with cat birth, so... maybe I'd be overreacting.

I don't know how old she is considering she was a stray, but I have had her for about 3 years already. Also, the bleeding stopped about 10 hours ago. It only happened once and it was a drop then it turned back into the brownish slimy blood again.

Oh. I read "bleeding" as being more blood than a drop. I don't think some spotting is necessarily uncommon in the days prior to labor, but keep close attention for any changes in her behavior, eating, and using the litter box. And continue to feel for movement with the kittens.

Difficult to say antything for sure.  They can have some precontractions.

She could also have had  a abortion of a premature - hid it well OR ate it immediately up.  That is why you dont see and foetus.

And the rest is down in their birthing postions, almost immovable, waiting for their proper time to be  born.

This is fully possible.  And is also my guess what happened here.

If she seems to be OK, no distress, no bleeding sawe some brownish discharge, proceed and observe closely, but you dont need to panic.  They will come when they come.

The safe is of course, to have a close cooperation with a vet, and let the vet examine her and see if there are kittens left, etc...   I would do that.

The danger with emergency vets, is, they are skilled but sometimes do surgery when it isnt strictly necesary - the old controversy between surgons and internists - surgeones do the surgery whenever they can, the internists use conservative treatment as long they can...

Keep reporting and asking!

Good luck!

Thank you. And sorry I did word the bleeding part bad. She seemed fine all last night and this morning. She would come in to my bed then would go back to her nest. She is still affectionate but she has been drinking a lot more and has been a lot more vocal and needy.

My concern is that vet saying for you to put your finger in her vagina....NOT the thing to do!!! SO glad you did not!

Sheez, what sort of advice was THAT?!

Sorry for the image but that is what is currently coming out. I just got home and my mother said her eating, drinking, and litter box habits were all normal. she said she had felt some movement. however when I got home I had realized she had been bleeding on the couch. there was more blood than what I posted but she cleaned it before I could take a picture. When I took that picture she kept moving so that's the only one I have.

And I agree the vet's advice seemed peculiar and somewhat dangerous.

I'm currently sitting with her rubbing her belly and she seems fine. She's cleaning herself currently.

Hmmm....the blood doesn't seem like the normal spotting in early labor.

I'm thinking it might not be a bad idea to take her in, I don't like this usually when she is in the state she is, but it seems when those of us here who have plenty of experience in labor/delivery are unsure, it might be the right thing to do.

I wouldn't recommend taking her to the vet who told you to put your finger in her eithere....can't figure that one still.

Okay thank you. My mother said she would be willing to take her tomorrow.
I just want to say thank you for being helpful as I had posted my question on a different site prior to posting it here and received no help but rather hurtful comments about me being a terrible person who got my cat pregnant on purposes to sell her kittens. Which is not true.
Thank you again. I will be sure to keep you updated on how things go.

Please take her to the vet ASAP.The waiting gam when it comes to pregnancy is very dangerous to your cat and/ or kittens. Please don't wait for her to get septic and dies.It fairly easy for a vet to remedy the situation before it gets critical .I would also DOUBLE CHECK all hiding places she's been seen in as she might have had them and being her first litter have misplaced them.It does happen more than you would think. Good luck and please stay on top of this serious situation.kitty depends on you to make the right decisions for her don't let her down.god less. Please let me know how this resolves.Hang in there and thanks for being a good Cat mom.[emoji]128149[/emoji][emoji]128571[/emoji]

I think I agree!   If a so so situation turns its really rather bad, its time to go to the vet NOW, not perhaps tomorrow.  Especielly if the actual caretaker here doesnt have a clue.

This may turn out really bad, and going to vet (hopefully a good vet) is the only way to try and safeguard.   Here is the moms life at stake.

Ps.  Earlier I ranted many emergency vets tend to make surgery, while other vets perhaps try more conservative methods.  The net result may be the same, at least for the mom.   So what is the difference, the money payment aside?

With humans, you can always take out the baby if  the least unsure.  Early born babies do make it. So early cesarean is seldom any problem, and very often saving the life on both mom and baby.

While kittens taken out by a too early cesarean usually doesnt make it.  MOM get saved, but seldom the kittens.

But here, the moms life itself is at stake, so these considerations are purely theoretical now.

High time to go to the vet.  At the very least, talk on the phone with a good vet, who is happy to talk over the phone.

Good luck!

Okay I just got home .

So my mother took her to a vet today (not the one who suggested sticking my finer into her). she did not bleed at all today (according to my mother - she's currently not bleeding either ) so when the vet saw her he wansn't really to concerned my mother said. She said he had said to just watch her and her bathroom uses. If she continues to bleed more than normal (her normal) to call him. He said she should be fine and if she doesn't deliver them in the next week or so to bring her back. My mother said he didn't want to do anything as it might cause her stress and make it worse. He also said she has about 4 or 5 kittens inside.

My question is though could the bleeding be occurring because she is an older cat? And also could this be happening because this might be her first litter ? (She was a stray so i dont know how old she is is or if she had kittens before ) I would have asked the vet but i wasnt there.
