To some degree, those are both marketing terms, so it will differ from manufacturer to manufacturer. As a general rule, grain-free means just that, the food doesn't contain species-inappropriate grains like corn, wheat, etc. However, they can still contain starchy vegetables like potatoes and peas which are also species-inappropriate and raise the carb content. Sensitive stomach foods can mean a variety of things. It could mean that species inappropriate ingredients are eliminated or that the protein is hydrolyzed for allergies or that common allergenic ingredients are eliminated. You really need to read the ingredient labels to figure out what it really means to see if it will help with your specific issue.

Totally agree with what vball91 said.

As far as I can tell, 'sensitive' is also a marketing lable. For example:

Royal Canin Sensible dry:Ingredients:
Rice, chicken protein (dried), animal fats, maize, maize gluten, vegetable protein, dried pork*, animal protein (hydrolyzed), yeasts, beet pulp, minerals, soya oil, fish oil, vegetable fibers, fructo-oligosaccharides.

Perfect Fit Sensitive dry:
Ingredients:
Meat and animal by-products (incl. min. 14% chicken), grain (incl. min 4% rice), vegetable by-products, oils and fats, minerals.

Not sure how these work.

Grain-free is rice-free, among other things. It can still have vegetables or other weird ingredients, but it is usually high protein low carb, therefor it is better quality than sensitive ones.
This being said, there are good grain-free foods that also have a sensitive line which has fewer ingredients (and a single protein).

Ok TY! I have my 7 month old cat on a grain free diet. He does ok on it unless I give him more then what i am giving him.  Which is 2/3 a cup dry per day. divided into 4 meals. Sometimes i give him Sheba cuts mixed in with the dry. (which i just read today. mixing the two could upset their tummys, news to me)

He was 6 pounds when we got him in Nov. He is currently 9 pounds.

I am giving him  .7 of an ounce per fedding and a half an ounce of Sheba chicken cuts. I have noticed as I move up .9 to 1 oz of dry his stool starts to get soft.

(I called the vet today but kept getting the machine) i wonder if its just a matter of finding the right food for him.
