I've posted several times over the years about Coco, but here's a brief history.
Bladder stones in 2008
Diagnosed HyperT in 2010
Thyroid tumor removed in 2012
I-131 in August 2012
Diagnosed HypoT in 2013
Last week, we took her in to our vet for a suspected UTI. The vet noticed her gums were quite yellow and started a few tests. Her liver values came back through the roof. My vet had a hunch that it might be pancreatitis, so she was tested for that as well. It came back positive. Up until last Friday, she was getting better. Over the weekend, she took a nose dive. On Monday, our vet told us that our only option was to take her to Auburn Vet School for treatment, because they had much better resources and equipment. She was admitted through critical care yesterday afternoon.
So far, Auburn has confirmed the pancreatitis and an enlarged gallbladder and bile duct. They feel that is most likely a side effect of the pancreatitis. During a ultrasound, the noticed a large amount of fluid in her chest and abdomen. That was pulled and tested for lymphoma. The results were negative and the vet team feels it's related to the inflammation taking place in her abdomen. Her potassium and Vitamin K were both low, so they are supplementing both of those. They did a coagulation test this morning and she failed, so they have put off the liver biopsy until tomorrow. She had developed more fluid in her chest, and they pulled off 90-100 ml this morning. They vet is planning a heart ultrasound for the afternoon to check for heart failure.
After her initial results yesterday, I was starting to feel hopeful again. Now, I don't know what to feel. I can't find many other reasons for an accumulation of that much fluid in such a short time. She was on continuous fluids at my vets office for 7 days, but I don't know if that would make a huge difference. The thought of losing my sweet Coco is breaking my heart.
