Quick question I have been wondering about since I have been reading about the raw food.  You know how they say be careful cook your food real well due to bacteria and such on chicken.  Well feeding raw food how does that go when it comes to bacteria present.

Excellent question. I wondered the same when I heard about the raw diet. Cat's digestive systems are not like ours. They're designed for raw meat, as cats haven't yet mastered fire and thus no grilling their wild catches!

Yes, it is amazing that they would not get sick over it.  Thanks for your reply it was puzzling me.  Yet they do get diabetes, thyroid problems etc..

I am with those who believe the increased prevalence of these health issues in cats is a result of the toxic ingredients commercial cat food producers put into their products. I'm hoping that by feeding raw, I reduce Oliver's risk, but then the meat he's eating comes from animals who were likely fed the same crap I'm trying to avoid! Lower quantities, though, is the hope.

Same problem with our own human health issues. Our food is just... awful. So full of toxins.

One of the advantages a cat has is that its digestive system is far faster. It takes about half a day for food to make the trek, while with people it's more like 2 days.

You do still have to be careful when feeding raw, though. Proper handling such as not thawing meat by letting it sit on the counter, not leaving food out too long, etc.
