I have a female kitty who has recently started losing hair and pulling at her fur. She acts the same and eats fine..The only problem is her skin. I have other cats and they show no sign of it.due to horrible weather thevet has rescheduled her appointment and I was wondering if anyone had seen anything similar and if theres a way to make her more comfortable?

Have you recently changed her food or litter?  Do you have any plain Claritin on hand or can you get out to get some?  You can give her up to 1/2 tablet once daily to help with itchiness and such.  Get the plain, 10mg loratadine.

There are 3 things that cause skin issues/sores/itching.

One is flea allergy. Despite not being able to actually see them, the majority of the time, that is unless kitty is regularly treated, they are there.

The simplest way to know is looking closely at where she was laying down napping, you will likely see little black pepper looking dots. That is flea poop.

Another way is to use a flea comb, swiping it down her fur to sort of rake her skin, sides of her neck, etc and look.

Lots of cats will not react so much with fleas, but many who have a flea sensitivity will go nuts, scratching, chewing, causing sores and fur loss.

The next thing is an allergy, food is the number one allergy cause in cats.

Can you tell us what food your cat eats, if anything is new or different from before?

The third but I doubt this is your kitty's case, is ringworm. Small (usually) areas of dry skin, maybe sores/redness and fur loss. Face and eyes, ears, and neck are more likely but ringworm is a fungus and can be anywhere on kitty.

Just a couple of other possibilities to consider : Demodetic mange, which is not the contagious variety, or psoriasis. Mange is caused by mites and psoriasis is allergy related. Both can result in intense scratching and loss of hair. I would think if this was fleas that your other cats would likely be exhibiting some symptoms such as scratching.

As with fleas, if it is mange then it needs to be dealt with as soon as possible. Your vet would do a scraping of your cat's skin and examine under microscope to confirm.

My sister's cat is allergic to some cheap litter, which my sister found out when Roxy was a kitten. It caused her fur to fall out in places. And she forgot about this and this month, with post-Christmas money being tight, she bought that same cheap litter. Happened again. She dumped that and got the regular Tidy Cats she normally uses and Roxy's fur is coming back.

Not sure if that's a possibility for your cat, but if you've changed litter recently, may be worth considering.
