Hi my name's Natalie and I have 4 great pussies Theo, Lily, Jasper and Charlie. I came upon this site by accident looking for some advice and its fab! Although I've had 12 cats over the last 24 years I'm still learning about them....they never fail to amaze me in one way or another.

Theo who is 5, started to lose fur on his back end, tummy and sides last May. The vet said it was over grooming. I can't say I've seen him licking or scratching anymore than normal but I work full time and who knows what he gets up to while I'm out.

He is neurotic and doesn't like anyone but me. He hides under the spare room bed when I have family and friends round, even a knock on the door has him diving upstairs for cover.

When it started I'd had a weekend at a festival with my Dad feeding the cats while I was away so I put it down to anxiety and stress. I bought the Feliway plug ins and his fur started growing back. I thought that was it then it started again around the end of last November. The plug-ins are still in so I tried a different tack. The cats are de-flead every 5 weeks but you know what its like when they go out they still pick them up, so maybe it was fleas so I bombed the house with foggers.

It hasn't made any difference and now my poor pussycat looks a mess. His bottom and the back of his back legs are almost bald. I'm now trying them all on a Wainwright's 'sensitive' diet of dry kibbles and wet pouches . They are not amused and look from their bowls to me as though saying "where's our Whiskers and Felix ?" I'm still awaiting results.......

If anyone else has any suggestions I would be very grateful. Theo's also on steroids for rodent ulcers -one every 3 days seems to be managing them- and to my knowledge he has had 3 seizures.

Fortunately Lily, Jasper and Charlie are all well !

Welcome to TCS !!! Your cats all look very beautiful. :D

I think you might get more help and advice with Theo's problem if you post it in the "cat health" section. ;)

Welcome to TCS!  Your cats are beautiful.  I am sorry for the problems they are experiencing right now.  I have a cat, Blackberry, with severe skin problems and I know how frustrating it can be.  We currently have her almost cleared, but the vet disagrees with us as to the cause of the problem.  (He thinks it's her food, but she was abandoned by the neighbors...what are the chances they were feeding her the same food as us?)  Sorry, I didn't mean to hijack your welcome post.  It's very nice to meet you and I think you'll find lots of knowledgeable members in the Health Forum, as mentioned above.

Hi Natalie, welcome to TCS!

Oliver runs and hides under my bed whenever I have guests over, and any action at the front door sends him running. As for hair loss, my sister's cat has had some troubles with this, but always the result of a particular litter. My sister bought it once when she was a kitten and it caused hair loss. Then my sis forgot about it for a couple years, bought it again a couple of weeks ago because it was on sale and OH RIGHT! Hair loss! Not sure if that's a possibility, but if so, maybe try a different litter!

Welcome and I hope your issues with the little ones are soon behind you.  I know it is a real worry when one or more of them is not well.  Funny how fast they wrap their paws around our hearts, isn't it?

I look forward to meeting you and your cats and learning about your life with them and theirs with you.
