I usually give my two outside guys a spoonful of cooked chicken as a bedtime snack. They have been turning their noses up at it lately, so tonight, I cooked up a tablespoon of egg white and added it to their chicken.  They both dug in - actually, the attacked it.

It got me to thinking - is egg white OK for them?  or it is like junk food (which is why they both loved it!).

I am hoping it is because they both cleaned their plates.

Egg whites are healthy! Whole eggs might be healthier, but I'll let the experts weigh in on that.

I would guess that you need to abide by the 15% rule (15% of the diet can be fed without adding supplements) but otherwise it's a low phosphorus protein.

Raw eggs are just fine for cats. However, egg whites alone are not good. Egg whites contain avidin which binds biotin. The yolk makes up for the biotin though, so if you're going to feed your cats eggs, don't leave out the yolk.

Same goes for feeding raw eggs to ferrets and dogs.

You can also feed them the shell by grinding it up.

Avidin is only an issue in raw egg whites.
