good morning.
On Friday, my cat had a seizure consistning of face twitching and extreme drooling. after the 30 second episode, she meows loudly for a bit, then is back to normal, although she seems paranoid. This happened again on Saturday at 9am, so we took her to the vet. Vet checked for obvious signs such as ear mites or lumps, but found nothing. Thorough blood test results were "perfect".
Prescribed phenobarbital...epillepsy medication. 15 mg every 24 hours.
Saturday there were 2 more seizures.
Sunday there were 4 seizures.
This morning, Monday, there have been 4 minor seizures (twitching only) and 3 full seizures since 4 am.
Called vet and she upped dosage to 15 mg every 12 hours.
Getting worse and don't know the cause.
Came on very quickly...never had any health issues in 11 years.
Seizures always happen when cat is asleep.
Seizures always involve face twitching, heavy drooling, and sometimes very quick breathing...sniffing through her nose.
Eating and drinking a lot.
Bathroom frequency seems normal.
No other symptoms..
Any ideas???

Welcome to the forum, Shempdevil !

The very best online advice for chronic conditions, like seizures, is sure to be had from the specialized online groups (which exist for almost every chronic feline health disease/condition). There is one for people whose kitties are dealing with seizures - it is right here: Cats with Epilepsy or Seizures - Yahoo Groups

That group has been running for 10 years now, and more than 2,000 people - and their cats - are members there.

I know that I'd be a member there if I were dealing with this - just click the purple + Join Group button!

Now, be sure to keep us posted as well !

Thank you. I just can't believe I can't find anyone online who explains these symptoms. The symptoms are so consistent that I would think someone else would have seen these before. Face twitching and extreme drool. When reading for HOURS online, I can't find these exact symptoms anywhere. When epillepsy and seizures are discussed, the legs or whole body are usually mentioned. This is just face twitching, eye blinking, sniffing followed by a huge amount of drool.

My cat DeeJay has facial twitch seizures.  She has them quite often several times a day, she doesn't have any drooling with it,  I chose not to medicate her for them as they aren't severe and medicating her is very traumatic.  We determined that she was having petite mal focal seizures.  i did find this information though: http://www.felinecrf.org/symptoms_regulation_minerals.htm#calcium  That talks about the twitching being due to a calcium deficiency.  DeeJay's calcium levels are normal.  This site talks about seizures in cats: http://www.manhattancats.com/Articles/seizures.html  I also read that it can be due to high blood pressure.
