It's fixed! It's fixed! There was a bit of a hold up with the repairs instead of taking 2 days it took 8 but I've got it back now and it's all clean and shiny. I can just pretend it never happened ;)

Glad to hear that your car is all fixed Tammat! Looks like they did a good job

My husband was hit broad-side by a backhoe earlier this year. He was parked and proceeded to leave a parking area when this backhoe starts rolling from a parking spot and struck our car on the passenger side. Big long gash along the bottom of the back door from the bucket blade. We learned the hard way (who knew) that backhoes in Ontario are not required to have auto collision insurance? They do need liability however. So we ended up having to pay the deductible, for not being at fault. We are hoping that our insurance company will be able to get this back through subrogration.

That's terrible for you and your husband. I hope it all works out with your insurance company.

Thanks. Yes, fingers crossed here. The deductible wasn't a fortune but not what we expected to have to be paying up front.

Yay, Tammat! I'm glad you got your car back. Looks all shiny and new.

Oneandahalfcats, I hope your insurance company goes to bat for you. If it works out OK, you should get some of your deductible back, although it may take a while to get the money. Years ago, somebody hit me as she was backing out of a parking space. Her insurance company said it was my fault. My insurance took her insurance to court and the judge ruled that she was at fault. But it all took a while. Meanwhile I needed to get my car repaired....we went ahead and paid the deductible so that we could get the car fixed. I think it was about 2-3 years later, we got a check from our insurance company; it was for part of the deductible we had paid. We didn't get it all back because of some kind of fees or something, I forget exactly what the amount was. But they did reimburse us something.

Thanks! .. Sorry to hear about your bit of bad luck .. Its that darn automatic at fault when you hit someone from behind! I had a guy stop abruptly in front of me once when we were waiting to take off from a right turn lane at a very busy intersection. He started to take off and then slammed on the breaks while I was doing my shoulder check and getting ready to take off too. No accidents up to that point and none since. The insurance went up a bit after that, but then we switched carriers altogether and got a much better deal for our two cars. Happy ending there

We just purchased our car in March of this year and so not fixing it was not an option. We tried to get around paying the deductible claiming obvious lack of fault, but ended up paying it out. The insurance said it could take awhile. If we are lucky we may see something by next December, which, would make for an nice christmas present!

i'm sorry to hear about your accident.

you have to bug not only your insurance company, but the person that hit you. from having worked in a body shop i've learned that if you are on top of things, you get taken care of how you deserve to be! good luck with the repairs.

Thanks. We had our car fixed soon after the accident. The file is in the hands of the adjustor. They take care of dealing with the other side. :)
