I just recently put harts ear mite medicine in my cats ears. I am only now reading about its serious toxic properties. Why is this being sold?!

She is now scratching at her ear so hard that piece of hair are coming off in chunks and is bleeding bad. She seems to be very uncomfortable. I only put 5 drops of 0.05mg pyrethrins in her ear. Will she be okay? Is this enough to poison her? Please help, I have discontinued use of this permanently

There is no where near me open this late at all. She is asleep now.. I think that is a good thing, but I'm so worried. I can't believe this stuff can be bought. I'm really sorry if this is the wrong area to post, but I'm out of opinions :(

Over the counter earmite meds from Hartz, it would suprise me that it can be that irritating to her.

I also recommend using a warm washcloth and swiping out as much as you can.

It can very well be due to the mites crawling like mad because of the med if she has earmites bad, and it caused her ear to itch terribly.

It's really not a good idea to use store bought brands of wormers, earmite med, flea meds, etc. as they are weak and many are a waste of money, really don't work much.

I may be late to reply to this but I've found the hard way that Pyrethrins are HIGHLY TOXIC TO CATS even at low concentrations.  We tried it on our two cats.  The younger, healthy one had no reaction (he hated it) but the older, smaller cat developed severe seizures characteristic of pyrethrin poisoning -- check out the videos on Youtube.  Granted, the very fine wording on the back the Lambert Kay Ear-Rite Miticide says to check with a vet before administering the drops to "aged" cats.  It also says not to use the product on cats "under 12 weeks of age" but clearly displays a kitten on the packaging, which is entirely misleading.  I welcome comments if anyone feels I'm mistaken.  Lambert Kay??
