Hi everyone. We never had cats in the house and this is the first time we decided to have cats. The kitties are very playful and they eat and drink from time to time. My concern is that every time they defecate and urinate, they tend to lick their paws, from leg to leg each clean. I am worried because sometimes they step on their poop and thought they may have or may have not ingested some of their feces. I know its normal for them because cats naturally clean themselves but I am really worried in the long run.. Would this affect the health of my babies?

That is what kitties do and they probably do ingest some of their feces.  I know it sounds disgusting to us but it's what they do.  Their digestive system is different from ours and it is much less likely to make them ill.  You think about what they eat with prey that they have killed, they are designed to able to eat things that would make us ill and be fine.

Welcome to the site!  Sounds like perfectly normal cat behavior to me, I don't think there is anything to worry about.

Sounds normal to me too! I think they sound lovely and clean kitties (the alternative doesn't bear thinking about!) and hopefully they will learn not to step on their poop, some cat's dont. You can help here too by cleaning the litter trays often!
Welcome and hope you're enjoying having cats!

Yucky but normal.

Although nothing will likely come of the current situation, how many kitties do you have and how many litter boxes? You're supposed to have one more than the number of cats. Additional litter boxes will cut down on the missteps. While it may be within normal parameters for cat health, it'll help keep the house clean.

One thing no one has mentioned yet is you could try bigger litter boxes if you're concerned about them stepping in their poop. Some cats have trouble moving around in tight litter boxes.

It sounds like perfectly normal behavior, but I guess when you think how dogs and cats clean under their tails it sounds like they ingest a lot more 'poop' then we think and are fine!

So ive added a larger litter box.. What they do is that they run from the end of the house to the other and sometimes they hide and play inside the box itself.. Hahaha!! I dunno I find it really adorable when little animals run free around the house... But is that okay if they make thier litter box like a sandbox or a play ground?

Nice one over the box! And sure, it's ok to play. I guess they are young kitties? Young kitties are into everything, including places they probably shouldn't play! They'll grow out of it eventually. Enjoy!
