BF was sick this week -- which is becoming his natural state of being. When he's sick, he spends most of his time sleeping. Basically shuts down all other departments and puts those in sleep on overtime (18 straight hours Tuesday). In contrast, when I'm sick, I feel like being idle makes it worse. Not to mention, things have to be done, and if I don't do them... well, they're not getting done. So I struggle through and keep going when I'm sick, even if I'd like to at least slow down a bit.

So how about you? When you're sick, do you take it easy and hope for healing rest or do you push through and try to ignore it?

I push through to the point of collapse, even at home. DH will grit his teeth and go to work with a fever, etc., but stay in bed when he's home.

l do the same with all ailments, except my back. l injured my back many years ago at work, and l've gone to work since, with having to support the weight of my upper body by holding my thighs! And worked 12 hour shifts that way!

l've learned since then not to do that, it makes my back worse for a longer time. So now when l throw my back out l lie flat for a day or so until it heals itself.

I'm female, and totally do my best to take it easy. I get fairly cranky when sick so I've learned not to push myself.

I used to push. Didn't matter if it was a cold, the flu, a migraine, whatever. I went to work.

But I've decided that you don't get a medal for working when you're sick. In my office, it's the other way around and when you come to work sick, you usually are told to go home. And it's not worth it. It's not worth pushing yourself....or at least in my mind. And that's what sick days are for.

We get 10 hours of sick time a month, which are for medical appointments, sick children, and the like. I went for years hardly using any sick time, other than what I needed for appointments for the doctor and dentist. And that was it. When my parents needed me and I had to go to the ER, a lot of times, I'd spend the night at the ER with dad or mom, and then go home, shower and change and go to work. But it got to the point where I wasn't doing myself any favors. And we are allowed to use sick time for parent problems, so I started doing that....taking sick time if I needed to take my parents to the hospital or if I spent the night at ER.

And if I'm sick or I think I'm coming down with the flu, I stay home. And especially with these darn headaches, I can't concentrate at work anyway and half the time, I can't even talk right (I know what I want to say, but I can't say the words and it's really frustrating).

I don't take advantage of my sick time (although I know people who do). But I'm grateful for being able to take a sick day when I am sick or not feeling well.

I usually push through. I get through work, tests, whatever but I will get my rest too. I won't run a marathon with pneumonia or something, but I will make sure things like my tub is clean. Dusting can wait. ;)

Oh... to have paid time off. I remember those days, if only barely. XD

Hopefully once I secure this degree, I'll again have a job with benefits, like sick days!

I try to keep going if I can. But sometimes that is impossible. Whenever, my mind tells me I need to stop and rest, then I do.

I'm a stay  at home mom; I have no choice but to push through.  A few times my Mom has come after work so I could lay down for a while; but usually by then my kids are napping or having quiet time. And my head is on the other side of the wall from our couch and all that in the living room.  It's not always very restful.  I'd like to rest if I'm sick enough.  But if it's mild; then sitting around does make me feel worse.

DH goes to work; but when he is home and not feeling well he'll sleep it off.  I can't really complain about that because he is generally one to be up and moving with some sort of project.

I've learned the hard way about 'pushing through'.  I'm definitely a listen to what your body is trying to tell you type and act accordingly. But then I've organised my life so that that's an option.  I do feel for those who have to soldier on.

I've learned the hard way that with my asthma a common cold can easily turn into bronchitis. I try to be a bit easier on myself when I get a cold.

Isn't THAT the truth!  When I get sick I go ahead and push on through, I very rarely get sick and when I do I'm usually the LAST one to get it, so all the sympathy is gone! I go to work because they already have had it, and they gave it to me in the first place.
Lately though I'm bringing every thing home to my husband and I don't get it. All these kids I'm around are like little petri dishes!

It all depends on how sick. I've got immune problems so I catch stuff pretty easily. If I'm just feeling lousy, I'm pretty used to that and go on with my day. But about once a year or so I get really sick and those times I have to stop everything and sleep for for a few days at least.

No choice but to keep going.  Telling husband what I need done with cats and how, where items are just does not make sense.  He will help but he is slow about it and I get annoyed.  I pop few tylenol right a plan of what I MUST do and when feel ok enough cram it all in then sleep.  When I am sick it goes down to water, food and good enough boxes.  I set dogs food out and he will feed them/tie out and take in.

One year I had some issue with arm.  Put it off weeks until one morning I woke and could NOT get out of bed.  Had to call Mom into room and she had to basically push me off bed.  Went to ER and they wanted to keep me as it was that bad. I lucked out as responded to meds FAST and was ok next am(or good enough) .
