Hello all! Well, my mom and I must be crazy cat ladies..lol. Started with feeding a few and they multiplied. Its really hard because we fall in love with every one of them. Recently a few have disappeared and its heartbreaking. One is suffering from FLV and we cannot get him into the vet until monday. We really thought he would pass before then but he just keeps hanging on. Its killing me. He was my lil buddy. Dont know how much more I can take of seeing these babies disappear or die. We take very good care of them though. Currently about 20 of them.

Oh yes, they do multiply, especielly if having a safe source of food.

The remedy is quite easy:  make sure to spay / neuter them too, all these your protegées.   Look into the TNR.

Also, being unneutered, they will tend to disappear, and draw on themselves contagions like  Felv and similiar, as these do typically spread by biting wounds. Also, high stress isnt no good for these who got the virus into them, but arent sick as yet.   It blows up easily in periods of high stress.

So, please, do plan on the TNR as your next step.   HOW yo do it, and raise vet and or money, we will help you with the planning when you ask for it.

Tx for caring!

Good luck!

Stefan is right - spaying and neutering them (if you haven't already) is critical.  Not only will you prevent more kittens but you will also cut down on the possibility of diseases like FELV and FIV.    FELV is really horrible.  Have you thought about having him humanely euthanized?

It is also very contagious.  You may find others who have contracted it and they too will die pretty quickly.

FIV is spread through mating activities, males fighting for mating rights and territory and I believe from nursing moms to their kittens.  It isn't the death sentence that FELV is but it compromises immune systems and makes the cat susceptible to other illness.  We have many members with FIV + kitties and those cats have led happy, long lives.  But they have all been spayed or neutered and been provided with lots of good food and shelter.

Thank you for feeding them.  That is only the beginning, though!
