Hello.  My wife and I have a 9 yr old orange tabby cat named Eddie.  He did not eat for 3 days, no vomiting.  Took him to local vet, did labs (amylase and bilirubin slightly elevated), temp 104.5, kind of lethargic. He suggested that I go to an internal medicine vet. So that is what I did.
He stayed in the hospital for 5 days. There they did an ultrasound (showed angry pancreas), labs (amylase 1343, bili 1.2, normal reanl function and WBC), IVF, appetite stimulate, antibiotic (Flagyl).  He continued to eat very little.  His temp came down to within normal range, so we elected to place PEG tube (feeding tube to stomach).  Repeat US was the same, repeat labs showed amylase 1323, bil 0.8, remains afebrile.  After 5 days in hospital, discharged home on Tuesday 1/14.  Continues to tolerate bolus  tube feedings, occasionally eats some solid food (about 1 oz of his dry food per day). I am sure he still feels bad and prob. did not get much rest at the hospital.  We are concerned that he is not eating that much.  We are almost at 50% goal on his feedings, not drinking much water, urinating 2 per day, no bowel movement as of yet, all he wants to do is lay around and sleep.  My wife is getting very upset that he is not acting like his old self even though he is better than before hospitalization.  I tell her it may take a few weeks.  We just need to keep plugging away and give Eddie some time.  What is the typical recovery time for a cat is Eddies situation (the only other medical issue he has is a tendency to develop bladder stones which he was on a special diet that might have contributed to his pancreatitis)?
This is our first experience with a sick pet, therefore we do not have anything to compare it to.  So if there is anyone that can lend some advise, we would greatly appreciate it.  We have searched the internet and have only gotten some general answers.  We are seeking out people that have had similar experiences and what results they received and time frame for recovery.

Again, thanks for the information in advance.

My cat spent 5-6 days in hospital for a different reason - he had anaphylactic shock from general anesthesia during a routine dental and was in an incubator on oxygen for about 4-5 of those days. I then took him home and while I cannot recall the details, I seem to recall that it took quite a few days for him to really pick up his eating again and he slept very deeply and non-stop for at least 3 days. While I cannot speak to your kitty's health issues etc. (your vet can presumably let you know about that), in terms of how my kitty acted after his 5-day hospital day, sleep was definitely more interesting to him than eating for those days. He slept non-stop and deeply. He came around soon enough, and several months later is back to full health. He needed some anti-nausea drugs and some other things while I waited for his appetite etc. to come back.

I think that in the ICU ward, the lights were on all of the time and there were loads of animals and vet techs around 24/7 - so even if he did sleep, it was not a good sleep. Also, they probably don't feel that "safe" with all the strange activity, so they probably don't allow themselves to go into a proper sleep. I was so impressed by his non-stop deep sleeping after his return home, that I took a photo of my precious baby during this time period in an extremely deep sleep in the laundry basket.
