About a month ago, my wonderful boyfriend turned out to not be quite as wonderful as I thought, and he broke up with me. He said I could stay there, but really, I was only living there for him, I didn't like the area that much, I didn't know anyone, and it cost a fortune to drive back and forth to work.  So without our relationship, there was really no reason for me to be there.

So I called some ads in the paper but nobody wanted to rent to me with the cats, and of course, where I go, my boys go. So I put an ad in the paper looking for a temporary place for us (mentioning my two well behaved cats) and I got a call from a very sweet old lady who had a room in her basement, and we moved in there 19 days ago.

Well yesterday I went to look at an apartment, it's an upstairs duplex, 1 bedroom, and the guy said he'd just charge me an extra $20 a month for having the cats. He called me this morning and asked when I wanted to sign the lease! I was like "Uh, now?" and laughed, and we set it up for Friday morning.

So YAY, my boys and I finally have our own place! I got a second job to make sure I can afford the place, but the rent is very reasonable and includes all the utilities, for about what just rent would cost me at the apartment complexes around here. It's on a quiet street and my bedroom is at the back of the house away from the street, so it will be nice. And the people moving into the downstairs unit are friends of mine from work!

So yay...I'm happy!

Glad you found a place, I hope you like it there. We are going to be looking for a new place soon too and we just moved here in April.

Finally back, took a bit to get my internet going.

The other day the landlord was here while I was at work, fixing something, and Burlington slipped out. I have no idea how long he was gone before I realized he wasn't here after getting home. I looked and looked for him, but with him being deaf, calling didn't help any and we have stray cats in the neighborhood, so following footprints in the snow wasn't helpful, either. So I posted his pic on my FB page and it was shared 38 times. The next day I got a message from a lady a couple blocks away saying she thought she had my cat. So I sent her my number and she called me, and sure enough, she had Burlington! So I ran over there and picked him up. I was soooo relieved, I was afraid I'd never see his sweet little face again!

Trevor spent two days acting like he'd never seen him before, hissing and growling, but he's over it now.

I told the landlord that from now on, let me know before he's going to do any work (the broken thing still isn't fixed, needed to order parts) so I can shut the boys in my room so they can't get out.

And did Burlington learn anything from spending a night outside in sub-zero temps? NOPE. My mom and I were moving some stuff in yesterday and he tried to go out again! Brat.

But we're all moved in now, and happy!

You must have been beside yourself with worry! It's great that you got him back so quickly. :vibes::vibes::vibes: that everything else goes smoothly from now on and you all feel at home.

So glad you got him back! It infuriates me how often tradesmen/landlords will carelessly let people's pets out. I have so many stories like that. Such an ignorant disregard for that fact that this is someone's home, regardless of the fact they're renting it. :eek:nfire:
Anyway, I'm glad he's safe and sound and you found a decent place to live so quickly!

I'll just be super careful in the future and make sure they are in my bedroom when work is being done. I had a thought that I should that day, but I was running late for work and really didn't think they'd go down there. Now I know better.

It could have ended a million bad ways, and it ended a good way so I will take it as a lesson learned and not let it happen again.

Ugh, that has got to be one of my worst fears! So glad he's home safe.

When we moved into this house I was outside and thought I had closed the door.  Was talking to husband and next thing I know he is like um...there are cats.

They started to explore very nervously as they are all 100% inside only.  We got all back in but one and he DARTED.  He was an older kitten and jumped onto the planter and then right into snow.  I ran barefoot right after him.  We think of that every so often and laugh cause it was surreal seeing a bunch of cats coming out and I was just in shock and could hardly move even though I knew I had to.

OMG! I have so been there! the panic, freak out till your baby is found! I have been through a few major complete panic situations with different kitties in the past, serious freak out mode! Each time was so completely different, and I swore 'I will never let this happen again!' . Guess what, while becoming a super, over protective kitty mom...........every time, lesson learned!
