i just got this other cat from my sis and he was perfectly ok well the 2nd night he was here i woke up the next morning and he was crying at the bottom of the steps then i looked closer and noticed he wouldn't walk on his leg, its now the 3rd day and he is limping now! i don't have enough money to go get him checked out right now and i think the person i have living here with us (i thought was a friend) hurt him, he always talks about how one time he threw a cat ect. it discuses me! so when i woke up that morning my cat leg hurt and he don't know how or what happen! any other morning he got a story to tell about the night hours! i don't know how to tell i wish i could get inside my cats head somehow my poor baby only been here 3 days and has to go through this!!! what can i do to help him how can i tell if its broken or sprang orsomethin? i know the obvious answer is to see a vet but untill i can get the money up i need to make sure he is well taken care of what do i do????!!!

First of all, if you have ANY reason to believe your roommate hurt your cat I would be either asking them to leave or finding another place to live. I would under NO circumstances leave this person alone with an animal or any defenseless being such as a child. Can you confront them and find out for sure? Any person who would brag about hurting an animal would be one step away from hurting a human, BE CAREFUL! If the leg is broke he won't be putting any weight on it, if he is limping now it may be just hurt, keep an eye out for improvement. If he is not better in a week you may have to bring him in, look for a low cost vet and call them for prices. If at all possible keep the poor cat in your room. I feel sorry for you, you were trying to help this poor baby and now this! Give him a kiss for me, bless you for being so concerned for this little creature!

Beg or borrow the money.

Please take your new cat to the vet, it may have something broken or anything and be in a LOT of pain. And while thinking about things, it is useful not to take an animal on if you are unable to care for it properly. That means have the money for a vet, or not live with someone you suspect is cruel to animals.  Sorry to be blunt, but you have to be the responsible adult here as the cat is relying on you to look after him properly. If you can't do that, find the cat another home.

@ fleabags mom* i feel i was being responsible when i fist took the cat in because i could have told my sister to jus take the thing to a vet place i took it into my home thinking he would be fine i've had his sisters for months now thought my sis was gunna keep him but she couldn't handle him! cant blame me for trying to give the cat a home i didn't say i couldn't take it to the vet i also stated i know that that is the obvious answer that i had to get the money up first, witch im getting alot at the end of the month i jus need to know if there is some type of massage i can do or something my husband was able to move it around today i figured since this is a cat site i could get some tips off how to do that, not how to be a responsible adult ive been that for years already; but thanks but no thanks thats why i have a mother! (she hate cats didn't bother asking her) lmao  and the guy staying with me is my husbands child hood friend i could have jus slapped him a good 5 times lol told him to leave then burn all his stuff but that wouldn't be as you say "RESPONSIBLE" any way i confronted him this morning and he said the cat probably got it stuck in something and or hurt itself jumping off something i don't believe him so ill get ride of him not my mufasa!!

I admire any one that gives a cat a home, they are far and few between, there are just too many homeless cats!  Once again good luck!

@ Di and Bob i understand that i should rethink having this roommate but its more to the story i jus want to make sure my mufasa is ok yes he is limping now and my husband was even able to move it around this morning is there any way i should rub his leg down? I AM GUNNA TAKE HIM TO THE VET FIRST THING I GET MONEY I PROMISE!! lol i confronted him this morning but i dont feel i believe the cat hurt itself within them 8 hrs i mean come on he been to my moms house she wasn't having it lol she said he cry too much he gotta go and my sis couldnt take him no more either. i asked my sis about how he acted there she said he gets really active a night, i have a pit bull gunna take mufasa some getting used to him the other 2 love him! but if i have to ill leave my pitbull downstairs he aint stupid enough to mess with him lol and ill make sure ill bring mufasa up to sleep with us! but like i said he only been here for 3 days so i wanted him to get used to the whole house when i got the 2nd kitty from my sis it took her a min to want to come sleep with us also i was letting him ya know kinda want to be in there i didn't want to force it because of my dog trigger! but since this happen ill bring him up and let trig sleep downstairs! i will keep an eye out for him for a week like u said and if u don't mind keep u updated till i can find somewhere for him to be seen! ;-)

I don't mean to fight, but being responsible doesn't end at taking a cat in.  I don't mean it horribly, but as you've just found out things can go wrong - and the thing that suffers from lack of funds the most is your cat! I am a firm believer that kindness and good intentions are, although wonderful, are not always enough. Is there anyway you can borrow the money and pay it back when you get your money at the end of the month?  Imagine you being in pain, in a new home with someone who might have caused the damage. Pretty scary place to be.

And no, I wouldn't rub or massage your cats leg. If it is broken anywhere you will be doing more damage and creating more pain.  Has the cat leg swollen up at all?  Problem is coming here for advice, well, we are not vets. The person who you really REALLY should be seeing and asking for advice is a vet. Sorry.

As per the forums rules:

No online advice can replace direct veterinary intervention. If you suspect that your cat may be ill, please contact your vet immediately. You are welcome to look for advice in the health forum while waiting for that appointment, but never delay proper veterinary care waiting for Internet advice. Remember that cats, and especially kittens, are very adept in keeping pain to themselves and delaying treatment may cause irreversible damage.

If you cannot afford a vet, there are resources available to you to ensure your cat gets the veterinary care. There is an excellent article titled “When You Can’t Afford a Veterinarian” on this website, available at http://www.thecatsite.com/Health/76/...erinarian.html. Please read through it to find out more about the options available to you.

I understand it is difficult , but is there no way you can borrow some money or ask the vet to wait for payment? The trouble is, the longer you leave it the worse it could get. I hope there is nothing broken but if there is, in a week or so by the time you can get to the vet the bones will have started to rebond, possibly crooked, and he will be left to walk in pain and with a limp the rest of his life. And other injuries could also get worse. You have done a good thing by taking him in but you need to do the follow-up too. Good luck.

He really needs to see a vet.  Have you tried Care Credit?  It is a credit card that you can use to pay vet bills.  If not give it a try.  If that doesn't work see the resources listed above for what to do when you can't affrod a vet bill.  Your kitty really needs to see the vet, it is painful.

I agree with cprcheetah. Apply for care credit on line. it really helped me!!  Your baby really , really , NEEDS to see a vet ASAP!  He could be in terrible pain!
