I saw a commercial on the television  earlier and I saw that it said that one bag of that last as long as 3 bags of other litter??? Is this true? I always want to do the best thing  for our cat and we are always looking for ways to save money.. If the litter last as long as it says it does I feel like it would be cheaper and may even be better for our cat than the other litters ?Anyone have any experience with this????

Also My cat has never had a cover on his box. My husband and I have thought about adding one more here lately because he has been slinging more and more litter around and he is getting it all over our house. Is it a good idea to change it up and would he understand and still use the box ?

my cats are the opposite, they don't like using an uncovered box. i have two, I have an uncovered one and a covered one, and they seem to like their privacy.

i recently purchased this box:

http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4313502&f=PAD/psNotAvailInUS/No

The picture is misleading, and gives the illusion that the top cover is a solid white, but the top cover is made of a really thin material that lets a lot of light in, and the color is more opaque than solid...which is great so that might help you. Or you can search amazon for litter boxes with translucent top covers so that your cat doesn't feel boxed in when doing his business.

A lot of users also used storage bins as litter boxes, and they've had great results. Its cheap, and it works. so that's something to think about.

I'm not so sure about blue buffalo littler. But i used this one, also natures miracle brand:

http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=11639408&f=PAD/psNotAvailInUS/No

This litter is AMAZING. Lasts a long time for me, and the best thing about it, it clumps SUPER fast, and eliminates and keeps odors away.

When i first purchased this litter, I poured it in my empty litter box. And i left the room for literally 1 minute. I came back to find both my cats in the litter box, investigating, lol. They didn't seem like they were using it, they just looked like they were sniffing around. So i shooed them away so i can mix some of their old litter and put the cover back on, but while mixed, i found clumps, of #1 and #2. and like i said, i left the room for literally 1 min to put something away, in that 1 min, they both managed to go in the litter, and I did not even smell it at all, and it clumps to like cement status right away. amazing litter. I love it.

The litter box they mostly use is kept in my bedroom, so its nice waking up in the morning and not having the room smell like poo or pee. give it a try, they have a 20 lbs jug of the litter on sale for 5.99

Thanks for the advice. I am def going to try the kind that you suggested!

I was just thinking that if we got him a covered box that he may not get litter on the floor as much .

A covered litter box is not always best, because some cats don't like that. I think if you get a high enough storage bin, then it will eliminate the litter being kicked out.

The litter box I got works great for me. It's very spacious, and the upper lid is thin and opaque which let's a lot of light through. U should go to a Petsmart and see it for yourself. Natures miracle also sells high sided litter boxes that are uncovered.

The local rescue in my area just switched from Feline Pine to the Blue Buffalo Walnut litter. The lady who runs the organization LOVES that litter. She says it clumps very well, helps with the smell and doesn't track.

I was sceptical at first when I read the bag and it said to put 3" of litter in a clean litter box and then to scoop daily at least (I do about 3 or 4 times daily) and to add more litter as needed to maintain the 3" depth.  They also said if the directions were followed that the litter would not need to be totally replaced or pan cleaned for 30 days.

I am a "show me" type and so I decided that I would try to do just that.  And it worked.  My house does not smell of the litter box, nor does the litter have flowery or perfumed smelling aroma.  It instead smells like a forest glade or like new cut wood.  My cats love the stuff and I did not go through the period of weaning them.  I just switched cold turkey.

The ads do also say "no dust or very low dust" and I will have to call foul on that.  The stuff is dusty and the cats track it all over.  But the litter boxes are on padding and plastic sheets and I do not mind.

The quick clumping and solid clumping is 100% correct.  It makes clumps that are easy to scoop and hold together.  (does take about a 5 minute wait)

I had used cheap litter and expensive litter, scented and unscented, clumping and standard.  This in spite of being dusty remains the favorite at my house with both the cats and myself.  It is a bit on the expensive side but I will pay for the "no litter box smell" and for the cats using it happily.

I've used the Blue Buffalo walnut litter and have found that there is a difference between their regular clumping litter and the multi-cat clumping litter. The multi-cat is very low dust, very little tracking, and excellent odor control. The regular kind (which I accidentally picked up once) is extremely dusty, tracks horribly, and has fair-to-good odor control.

Thank you so much for all of the reviews. I am thinking about trying the natures miracle that was refereed to me above. I really dont have a lot of problem with smell I use tidy cats right now but I do have a lot of litter tracked all over our home. It seems like everywhere I go there is a little bit. I had thought that maybe if we could find another kind that lasted longer and would be a little more expensive it may save money and lower the amount trakced through out home. When I saw the commerical for the blue buffalo it seemed to be wonderful. I think the commerical says one bag last as long as 3 bags do and its all natural so its better for the cat!

I now have 2 of 5 cats.......all their lives they did nor like a cover over their litter box but did not mind having a back board for the boys to 'mark'.......they have preferred a soft litter like shweat acoop but definitely did like the blue buffalo....just be prepared for a very darl litter making it a luttle tricky seeing what needs to be removed....definitely has a pleasant nutty aroma.....

Please do let us know how the natures miracle, or if you decide to go with the blue buffalo litter, works for you.

I've tried natural litter products with my cats, and unfortunately it did not work for me. I've previously used WBCL and I HATED IT.

After that, i was using Tidy Cats as well, I thought it was good. for the price, It got the job done, and controlled odors, but it would track A LOT. it was all over the place, even on my bed. And it was quite dusty, as my my cats would leave "bread loaf" prints on my bed sheets, or my black furniture (meaning they would use the litter, and decide to sit down someplace in the 'loaf of bread position' and it would leave an imprint lol). Also, at first when i pour in a fresh batch of Tidy Cats, it clumps GREAT, but after a few days of usage, the clumps start to break apart. I was frustrated, because every litter i used did this. I don't want to dump and scrub every week. I have back problems and it sucks to have to do this on a weekly basis, just to get the results of the fresh batch of litter, that only lasts a couple days.

I read reviews for Nature's Miracle Intense Defense Litter on amazon, and I've read a lot of reviews on its amazing clumping abilities. I mean, i saw the effects of this on the very first day that I've used it! So far, from my experience, its good. Amazing clumping, and literally instant clumping (less than a minute, no joke) and it the clumps are ROCK HARD!! When clumping I also noticed it doesn't use much litter, I have poured Nature's Miracle in my box Thursday, and have not had to add any additional litter as of yet.. I usually clean out the box twice a day, because it starts to smell, but with this litter i've noticed i can go a whole day or even two (i pushed it this weekend to see) without cleaning, and there were NO odors. Although I think i'll clean it out daily for my kitties, I hate knowing they're using litter that hasn't been cleaned out for them...

Because it is clay litter, there is some dust and tracking, but IMO a lot LESS than Tidy Cats, WBCL (which had BROWN colored dust that looked like SOOT), Arm & Hammer (these are all the litter's I've used before)

I've ordered some Pan Liners (disposable litter trays) which I will place in my litter box, this should even further help with any odors, and make the litter last longer. When my kitties go #1, no smell, and when they go #2, of course initially there is, but it disappears in a min give it take (basically as soon as it takes for the litter to clump)

Does "ROCK HARD" mean that the clumps will stick like glue to the side or bottom of the litter box and are impossible when doing the big total clean (water, soap, scrubbing) of the litter box?

No that is the rationale behind the 3 inch of litter in the box so that the clumps do not attach to the bottom but I will say on the occasion when I have been running short on litter and the box was less than 3 inches I was able to easily scoop the clumps and get rid of them.  They do not glue themselves down to the bottom of the litter box.

I don't have issues with my cats, and the litter clumping to the walls of the litter box (fortunately). Once in a blue it does happen, and the clumps do NOT stick to the wall. But when trying to get the clumps off of the sides, they do not break apart, that's what i mean when i say the clumps are rock hard.

i could be digging through the litter with a scooper, and hit a clump, but it won't break, or when i'm sifting through the litter, and i'm trying to shake away the excess litter from the clump in the scooper, the clump does not fall apart.
