Sounds like you've got a lot of love to give to a lucky kitty who needs a home, when you feel the time is right. You know you can't replace Punkin, but you could find another companion you'll come to cherish.

If at all possible double your love and get two! They would keep each other company when you are gone. You wouldn't be replacing Punkin, that can't be done, but you would be honoring your lost baby by sharing the love you two developed. Good luck, and keep us posted!

Yes! Eight days after Grey died, I went to the shelter for 2 cats. I came home with 3, and I am still happy with 3.

There were days that I still cried over losing Grey; that's normal. I just gave myself time to grieve her loss, then played with the new kitties for a bit. It was never about replacing Grey; my house was empty and 3 kitties got a forever home.

Diaz41, I SOOOO understand how you are feeling.  Please allow me to tell you a story.....

In 2003, my beloved kittenish acting 18 year old black  tortie, Angel, died of a heart attack.  I found her in our bedroom; she had been on her way to her usual spot on our bed.  I held her close, and while crying, I asked her and God, that if she wished, could she try to come back to me somehow?

Seven weeks to the hour later--almost that we buried Angel, a black tortieshell appeared on our front porch scarfing down the food we left for our other outside cats.  I peered at her through the window in the front door, and when this cat turned to look around herself, I saw her face was 'split' almost the same way Angel's had been--orange on one side and black on the other--except this girls face was opposite.  It was like looking at a mirror..

I eased the door open and squatted down and called to this cat to come in.  Normally strange cats will run in a situation like that.  But this one didn't.  She looked at me solemnly for a few seconds, then she turned and came into the house!

So Angelina joined our family.  And was a joy.  She was like Angel in many ways, but also her own very loving personality.  Almost every time she climbed up on my chest and nuzzle me, my 'Hub would remark:  "Boy, she really loves you!"  "Yes," I would say and add:  "I love her, and she knows it.  And I prayed for her".

(No this is not a Stephen King novel--at least until the last part.)

Fast forward to Thanksgiving weekend 2013, while we were on vacation out of state, my beloved 10 year old Angelina was killed by a neighbor's pit-bull dog.

I was not informed of this until until we were almost home.  'Hub had known of all this while we were away, but he did not want to ruin my vacation, or what I was doing while we were gone.

I am still not quite certain how I feel about that form of deception. I can understand it in a way, but my major hang-up is that I did not get to say the same prayer over Angelina, that I did over Angel.  And I wouldn't have anyway, because we were not home, and it would take two days driving to get home, even if I had known at the time.

Anyway....

On December 15, 2013, we went to a campground to look at a camper for sale on Craig's list, that a friend was interested in buying.  What did we think of it?

While there, we found that the campground residents had a colony of resident feral cats.  They were catching the kittens and working with them to make them friendly and adoptable.  'Hub found a pair of kittens that were three months old and ready to be adopted.  We looked at them and agreed that we would take both.

One is solid black and the runt of the litter, but he is the 'Energizer Bunny' of the pair.  The other is a black and white, almost tuxedo--but only if the tuxedo has short sleeves and short shorts.  But the marking on the face is a white blaze with muzzle that looks like a 'Fleur-de-lie'.  Looking at that little face; I just cannot help but smile.  And watching the little black one's spunkiness makes me smile and laugh as well.

Sorry for a long-winded post.  But I do encourage you to get a pair that are the same age.  We have two other adults, that are at least 10 years old.  Ginger-Bear will tolerate the two boys and groom them now and again, but the other one, Hoppi, who was perennially jealous of Angelina, despises the kittens.  I am having to be very careful with them all.

My very best wishes to you~~ :)

Well, here is another story....

In 1981, a kitten--or at least 6 month old cat--ended up in the yard of the house where I was living.  This was a very beautiful long-hair yellow tabby tuxedo.  The cat was so pretty, but also so timid, it took me months to be able to tame/calm and then catch it.  All the while a very mean male cat stalked this one, the the point that I called the stalker, 'Aga the Assassin' after the Bulgarian that tried to assassinate Pope John Paul II in 1981.

Meanwhile, I named the cat I was trying to rescue, 'Princess' after Princess Leia of Star Wars.  I had to call it something other than 'Hey You'.  The problem was that after I rescued her/him and went to the vet, it turned out to be a MALE.  I tried to change his name to 'Prince'.  Nope!  He knew his name and it was forever 'Princess'.

Okay.  After that, when I met my future MIL and her husband (not a FIL) I found that they had one cat and a neighbor had another cat--both long-haired--and both named 'Princess'.

You guessed it:  Both were males.  So, since I am a 'Murphy' with three independent Murphy lines--I declared a New Law:  'All long-haired cats named 'Princess' are males!'

Ask if they do any multi-adoption discounts. I asked this shelter that normally charged $50 per cat, and they reduced it to $25 per cat. I paid it forward by donating food and money later to them.
