Hes a long haired kitty and hes been puking for about 3days consistently and its either clear or salmon colored. Can y'all help us try and figure it out?
Am not a vet and wouldn't want to guess to help you figure it out. But I would highly recommend going to one. Puking occasionally is one thing, but puking for 3 days solid could be pretty serious. Salmon coloured could indicate blood. Please go to the vets..
Even with a long haired cat I wouldn't expect it to puke for 3 days solid. There may be the occasional hair ball, but other than that, no, long hair will not be the cause of this sickness. And to be honest, we shouldn't even be guessing - it's not fair on the cat.
While I understand wanting to wait and see if it gets better, puking for three days is not good. The cat most certainly needs a trip to the vet before it gets even more poorly. Puking so much will mean that little food or water will be kept down and soon the cat is going to get seriously ill - just as we would do. Please stress to your friend that she needs to go asap, she doesn't know the cause yet and we don't want the puking to make things more complicated.
Agree with everyone that this cat needs to see a vet ASAP. In addition to whatever is causing the excessive vomiting, after 3 days he will be dehydrated and could also be on the way to developing fatty liver disease because cats cannot go long without eating.
I am going through something similar but not that extreme.
You have to go through a checklist of what it could be and eliminate them one by one and see if that helps, your cat shouldn't just be 'nausious' for no reason.
1. Did you recently get a new bag of food or change brands? Maybe it's tainted or he isn't taking to the new food, get rid of the bag and buy a new one.
2. Have you changed the litter type or started to add something to it like arm & hammer?
3. Is he peeing & pooing regularly?
4. Are there any cat toys he could have swallowed or maybe ripped and swallowed the inside? There could be a partial blockage
5. Is he any of the following: runny nose/eyes, lathargic, seems in pain? If so then there might be a medical reason, get a blood test.
6. Look at the environment, what changed? New bed sheets? new cleaning products? Rugs? New bed or topper, new air freshner or maybe you got a mist humidifier that might affect him?
You have to think back to when this started and try to remember what was introduced/changed in the cat's environment around that time.
