I had mamma spayed today and honestly I think it was almost as traumatizing for me as it was for her. I brought her home only a few hours after surgery because the organization where I had her surgery done does not keep them overnight. Now I have never had a female cat before so this whole thing is kind of new to me but I am a wreck.

I tried to put the collar on her and she flipped out rolling all over the floor trying to get it off banging into things and just acting like a mad woman so I took it off as I was afraid she would hurt herself. I read on here just to leave it unless she tries to bother it too much, well of course she was licking it like crazy so I tried the sock thing. she did NOT go for that at all, I don't think I have a loose enough fitting sock, no men in my house. she started to scream and cry so I quickly took it off.

well she is still licking at it and honestly im not even quite sure what the incision is supposed to look like to keep an eye on it, they used dissolvable stitches and glue so I can not even see if there are stitches and where they are or if she got them out already. there is no blood or anything and it does not look open but I really don't know what to do for her. she is sleeping right now thankfully but im afraid if I leave her alone all night she will wake up and start messing with it again .

Someone help me please!!

I would leave the ecollar on her if she is licking.  They can easily rip the stitches out especially if they are the dissolvable kind.  She will get used to it.  You can try a baby onesie on her, that way she won't be able to get to the stitches.

she would not keep the collar on, I tied it as tight as I could without choking her and she still had the thing half around her face within ten minutes, I have a feeling she may have already got the stiches out. I have been watching her like a hawk as much as I possibly can but I had to run out for a minute earlier and I though she would be fine because she was sleeping but when I came back she was awake and licking at it. I don't have a onesie I have to work tomorrow and im a wreak !! I don't want anything to happen to her and I don't know what to do

Call your vet.  When you look at the incision is it separating?  If it is then she need's to go back in.

None of my cats have ever had a cone, and they just licked their incision and were fine. Watch your cat for pulling or biting at her stitched area, you might have to distract her for a day or two. I agree though that her antics trying to get the cone off will probably harm her more then not having it. Watch her incision, as long as there is no pus oozing or it is not hot to the touch you should be fine. She might have a small amount of blood from the incision but that should quit in a day or so., if in doubt call the vet. You might see a swollen lump at the site, I found that this is swelling from the inside trauma and stitching. Vets are more then happy to talk to you after surgeries so don't be afraid to call if anything looks strange. Good luck and kiss her for me!

It does not look like it is separating. I had it done at people for animals through petco and their clinic is an hour and a half away from me. I was regretting the decision as soon as I dropped her off at the pick up yesterday morning.

But it was the most reasonable place I could find. They did everything for like 150$. Spay, microchip, blood testing for fiv/felv, flea treatment, and nail clipping.

But now if it's a problem it's going to be near impossible to get her back there. I was in between vets trying to find a new one, so she went to a different vet than my other cat was going to, and although I was more satisfied with him than my old place I still wanted to look around. But hopefully since he has seen her already before if there is a problem I can bring him to her??

I know I tent to over think everything and exaggerate situations sometimes because I get really worried lol I am always afraid of the worst.

She seemed fine this morning, she was even trying to jump up on things. She was licking it a bit but not much. I have not seen her biting or pulling at it so I guess that's a good thing. I had to come to work so I left her in my bedroom with food water and liter and locked my other cat out of the room because he wouldn't leave her alone. I am going to go check on her in a bit.

What about the pain meds? Should I only give them to her if she seems to be in pain?

Licking is OK, just make sure she doesn't bite/chew the stitches out. It sounds like she's doing fine. Keep an eye on the incision for any separation or nastiness, but most cats recover without incident.

What kind of pain meds?

You know, I was wondering the same thing. You would think they would tell you in the paperwork or something. It just says main meds and they gave me an envelope with two syringes filled with the dose of medication and not even any instructions on when to give them to her. All it says in the aftercare instructions is that she was given a 24 hour shot of pain medication and you can opt to buy take home pain medication if you want to. But nothing about what it is or when she should get it, obviously not for at least 24 hours but I mean what the hell. Again I guess you get what you pay for.

To me all cats who are spayed should have pain meds HOWEVER you do NOT want to give her metacam, is it like a creamyish looking fluid in the syringe or is it clear?  Metacam can cause Acute Kidney Failure.  I usually give my kitties pain meds (normally Buprenex) for 3-5 days following a spay.

It is creamy looking. Good or bad? I thought it said they gave buprenorphine on their site. But I was just going to call in the morning since there is no instructions. How terrible is that??

And they definitely did not give me three to five days worth, only two doses. I had to pay for it. Not sure how much since the whole thing was extremely cheap compared to a conventional vets office.

Creamy looking is most likely Metacam.  Buprenex is clear unless they put it in something else.  Metacam is really bad for cats.  That is not good that they did not put instructions on the syringes.  We put the syringes in a baggie and put the instructions on the baggie, clearly labeling what the medication is.

I
Yeah I thought it was kind of strange myself, even when the guy have me all the paperwork and stuff he was like and this is her pain meds there is two syringes in there one time use only just shoot it in her mouth. That's all. I should have asked but I was just so nerve wrecked and wanting to get her home I was not thinking. He was talking so fast and flipping through everything my head was spinning. I figured everything would be in the paper work. Then I got home and it was just a blank envelope with pain meds written ink. So I looked through all the papers and nothing. I was pretty mad.
