Hope I'm posting this in the right place!

I'm in search of a new and bigger litter box for my two kitties. I've got two boxes now, one covered and one uncovered. The uncovered one doesn't get much use, when it does, there is a blizzard of litter all over the place. But honestly both my kitties prefer to use the covered one, which is now starting to become a bit small for them.

Aside from the size issue, both of my kitties love privacy, so i have to buy a covered box, but the other thing, my younger kitty Jet, she has trouble burying her business! i think its because its too dark in the litter box (the covered one) and she can't see!! I've put her on the uncovered one, which she wont really use unless she's peeing (maybe once in a blue), and that she buries well, for #2 she wants her privacy, but she never buries it! ever! once i uncovered the top a bit while she was using it, to let some light in, and low and behold...buried poop. everyone was happy.

This is the one i'm currently using, and even from the picture you can see, not much light goes into this thing:

http://www.wag.com/cat/p/petmate-booda-dome-litter-box-432283?site=CA&utm_source=Google&utm_medium=cpc_W&utm_term=FPS-17782&utm_campaign=GooglePLA&CAWELAID=1418959417&utm_content=pla&ca_sku=FPS-17782&ca_gpa=pla&ca_kw={keyword}

upon doing some research on my own, i'm finding it really hard to find a decent covered litter box, with a clear, or transparent top. Sorry this post is as long as it is, but, i wanted to know if any of you out there have something similar, or have found it, or come across it?? i'm looking for a large or jumbo box, because i want to get just one and not worry about changing sizes as my cats grow. They're both under 6 months now. I've searched on amazon, walmart, petco, petsmart, and target...but nothing good. I've found PLENTY of GREAT covered litter boxes, with AMAZING review, but none with a transparent top :(

Any suggestions or recommendations are GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks.

Now that you bring it up, I don't think I have ever seen a covered box with a clear top. Hmm, I wonder why not. The only thing I can suggest is buying a clear storage container in the size you want and cutting out a hole in one side.

I have seen these cat privacy screens that fit around the litter trays. They look good and would let a lot more light in. It's worth having a look at them to see what you think.

Try googling "cat privacy screen"

Probably not big enough for you but IRIS does make semi-clear topped boxes: http://www.irisusainc.com/c-224-litter-boxes.aspx

I got a few of the open ones made by them - no complaints so far.

Otherwise, I'd go with a clear storage container.
I was looking at iris too, and OMG i love you right now. you've posted the only thing that is giving me actual dimensions!! All the other stuff I found didnt have dimensions....i'm gonna have to go home and measure the one I have and make a choice from there.

I just want to get something bigger because it looks like Charlie is going to be a big kitty. He's only 6 months old and he's already 7 lbs, but he's not heavy or overweight, he's  fit and slim. I don't want to have to keep buying boxes.. : /

Hmmmm.....HMMMM!!!!! I've never heard of this before!!! seems interesting.... I wonder how the cats might like that?? the thing with Jet is, she also like to scratch the walls and the roof of the top. She's weird. she wants to "dig" everything when she's doing her business...don't know if it has anything to do with the fact that she used to be a stray...but I'll definitely think this one thru!

:)

For hygiene reasons I buy new boxes every year (plastic harbors bacteria in the end) - then again I've only had my oldest for a little over a year! My younger one who is seven months old is around 9/10 pounds. The IRIS boxes work for me now, but I'm sure in the summer I'll be looking for a larger box.

Hope you find something that works.

Ugh!!! schbunny schbunny you have no idea how excited I got when I saw this. But it's no longer available :( I'm gonna pass by a petco and see however, maybe I'll get lucky....

pinkman pinkman I will line my litter box with a disposable litter tray, which means no scratches to the plastic, no bacteria deposits, and no need to dump and scrub! Got the idea from a post I've seen here on this site, I hope it works out well for me.

I've come across these too!! there are multiples of these on amazon, like, same product, but different sellers and stuff. and some of the reviews turned me off, where people said the 'newer' ones that are being sold, the top part is not translucent, but its opaque. But it couldn't hurt to try! i'm going to order one and see what the deal-y is. I'm also going to Petco to see if maybe by chance and by the miracle of forest fairies and elves and dwarves, they might have one, ONE in the back. I like the fact that the entry part is open and doesnt have a door.

I've seen too many videos of cats being stuck in a litter box and having a hard time getting out because of that plastic door. funny to watch, but I imagine not to fun to deal with as a cat lololololl

Have I ever mentioned before HOW MUCH I LOVE THIS SITE AND ITS USERS/MEMBERS??!!!! thanks everyone on this post for responding and helping and the suggestions! KEEP THEM COMING lol

I wouldn't worry about the door. Those are really easy to remove if it's an issue. I can't wait to see what you end up with.

(this is one I have, but in pink)

how about these? You can take the doors off if you're concerned about that

Oh, you're in Queens! not sure if you want to take a trip, but Pets Warehouse in Carle Place had a translucent top litter box, I saw it a few weeks ago.

Lamiatron,

You know what, I just rip the plastic door off when I buy the litter box covers LOL! Let me know how you make out with the ones from Amazon :)

OKAY! so, i went a little over board with thinking about the litter box, and i've come up with this new idea...

I plan on rearranging my room (i had to move stuff around and arrange it in such a weird way, to accommodate Jet when she came to my house, so i have to move stuff back anyways)

with that said, there will be a perfect semi hidden corner for my babies for where the litter box can go...AND its close to the window...so..instead of buying one that's covered and has a translucent top...I'm thinking of getting a high storage bin, and placing disposable litter boxes/liners (made of paper and last at least 1 months like these) in them, and filling the liner with litter. The bins will be clear and stay open on the top, so there is the light for the kitties and the litter will be in a container (the liner) so i don't have to see the poop and pee, they will get light, and!!! privacy (litter box location)

I think its worth a try!

I don't feel comfortable with ordering something online and then not having it work out and having to go through the hassle of returning it. So far I've found good litter boxes with translucent tops thanks to you guys, but they're all online. I want to look, see measure and feel it before i buy it. Storage bins won't cost me much and if it doesn't work out i wont feel bad for spending that 5 dollars on it..Judging from a lot of the posts/threads here on thecatsite and from some of your suggestions, i'm going to try it.

I will try to get them tomorrow and WILL post pics. and I hope my cats take to it!!!!

.... Also, if you have trouble buying online because you need to get a good visual of the product in action, you can actually get reviews of most products on YouTube. It does wonders for me to visually see products in action and compare them before purchasing online. :)
