I have to get some for my cat Lulu with small cell lymphoma. I read that the company who manufactures Leukeran went ahead and sold it to a larger company who doubled the price. It is now around $12 a pill.

I posted below where I saw an article from a vet in new york who was able to to get some from a compounding pharmacy, where they put chlorambucil into capsules.

Does anyone have any advice for me on where/how to get it more inexpensively? Thanks :-(

I'm sorry I can't be of more help, but maybe someone else will come along with more info for you.

Right now my veterinary group (Veterinary Specialty Center, Buffalo Grove, IL) is telling me that Diamondback Drugs may have the best price. Here is a good link to them in case anybody else has to source oncology medicines for your pets.

http://www.diamondbackdrugs.com/oncology-drugs/?gclid=CMzF1dLB_rsCFe5aMgodxmQA3A

There may be other places, I am waiting to hear back. I already had one fur child, my sweet Toby, with large cell lymphoma and I can tell you, it is prohibitively expensive to treat feline intestinal cancer, and the prices on the medications are skyrocketing. If anyone else has info please let me know. After my beautiful Toby, we were just about wiped out financially.

With Lulu, she is a different cat with different symptoms, older, and when we first noticed her losing weight we took her to the vet where they did an xray that showed a mass and we did a surgery - this was a little under a year ago - and the surgery did not show her cancer but rather something else that was immaterial but they removed it (a granuloma). And we thought she would go back to normal but she did not. While this was going on, Toby was dying and passed away in May.

And now we cannot afford a second full-out surgery just to pinpoint her diagnosis which is what we did with Toby, frankly to no avail bc his diagnosis was contrary to the description of his pathology report. Of course they are telling us surgery is the only way to diagnose Lulu. We have also been told (as I already know) that a needle guided ultrasound biopsy is a less expensive route but may be inconclusive and I don't want to go there as, aside from the fact that it didn't work with Toby, we would not give her full chemo should it show large cell lymphoma. We did that with Toby and it helped him but we only just lost him in May of this last year and we are emotionally and physically drained, and as I said earlier Lulu is a different cat and even now it is very difficult to treat her, not to mention she is that much sicker for not having been correctly diagnosed a year ago when she first presented with symptoms.

So anyone who knows where to get cheap cancer drugs, specifically 2 mg leukeran tablets or a cheap compounded equivalent of chlorambucil the generic equivalent, let me know.

BUMPING  this thread :-)

Hi-

Yes, currently Leukeran prices have skyrocketed unfortunately :(

I looked into a few options when I had to put my Jill on it to treat her Osteosarcoma metronomically........., Diamondback was definitely one of the cheaper ones, Roadrunner can do a liquid one for cheap and also Apex Pharmacy (http://www.apexpharm.com/)

Just one thing - I got these "cheaper" prices back in August, so they may have gone up by now.

Right now it costs about $25 per pill if we get the brand name i.e. Leukeran!

But through Roadrunner, an inexpensive compounding online pharmacy, it would be $45 for a three month supply, and I think that is with Lulu taking it only three times a week. That is acceptable to us. I hope she does not need more than that.

The compounding pharmacy near my house, i.e., Mark's Drugs, charges $14 per pill, so just to get Lulu a two week supply from them costs $80.

It's all pretty ridiculous. I can't believe anyone is paying the actual $25 per pill price. If that is what they make for people, maybe they are gouging insurance companies and that is why?

I got another lead from a friend on facebook, that I can order it from Big Mountain Drugs in Canada. I need to get a prescription written by the vet and then go to their online site and order it, and they can provide it for a little over $3 per pill. They have a sister pharmacy in the USA I think. http://www.bigmountaindrugs.com/Drug/Leukeran

If anyone has experience with this or another inexpensive provider, let me know.

Hi all, I found this thread and wonder if anyone has current information on how to get this drug cheaply. Spooky cat is drooling uncontrollably after being treated with Interferon for chronic stomato-gingivitis. We are currently using Atopica plus an antibiotic and painkiller, but the vet has now recommended Leukeran/chlorambucil to be added to his regime to further suppress his immune reaction. I currently live in Malta, and will be moving to Spain soon. I have a friend in the States who could accept delivery but it would be more convenient if the supplier could deliver direct to me in Europe. Please can anyone help with current cheapest suppliers? Thanks and regards, Sue

I just ordered from DiamondBack Drugs 100 capsules, 2mg for $182. I was getting tablets from Big Mountain in Canada but the US is now stopping shipments into the US. Good Luck!

Thank you for the information.  Lifesaver! I just went online with my old supplier, Canada Drugs Online, and they aren't carrying Leukeran anymore.

I just spent $600 on a 3 months supply of Leukeran for my cat.  I found your post and I'd like to follow your progress using Diamond Back's product and how your cat does on it. This would be an incredible savings and something everyone should know about.  Thanks for posting.

Thanks Foxxycat. I will do that.  So far my Boo Boo is doing very well on the Leukeran for about 3 years now.  Unfortunately, the drug company raises the price a few times a year. I'll check in with Yahoo and see what they all say.  Cheers and thanks for replying.

I have heard lots of good things about Roadrunner and Diamond back pharmacy.

You can also look into local pharmacies that compound. Mine is in nashua nh wingate pharmacy-they have a website. I get my pets gabepentin from them. They also have transdermal gels-maybe you can see what they have. Worth a shot. They take orders via fax and phone. They ship ups and usps. Fast shipping.

That's really good to know. I'm sure there are compound pharmacies here in Los Angeles that I could find if I needed to. Cheers.

Also, I just learned from Diamond Back that their compound is liquid in a capsule that's about 1/2 inch long. Unfortunately there is no way I could ever get that down Boo Boo's throat. The Leukeran pills are really small and hard and I just bury them in his food. I'm going to research other compound pharmacies to see if I can find another small pill.

Diamonback Drugs also compounds into a cat treat, and they can make it into any flavor your kitty might like.  About $2.50 for a 2mg dosage.

also I know one of them will send blanks to your vet-they wont ship to your house but to the vets to see which treats that kitty will eat-I apologize but I cant remember which one-one of them has several flavors to try. may be easier to do it via treats than capsules if its available for that medication?
