Hi Guys

Since Saturday my cat has been a little off. She is still eating and drinking ( although not as normal ) and is still using the litter box. She still wants to play with her toys with us at night and is for the most part acting normal, although she seems a little more sleepy yesterday. I don't know if I should take her to the Vet or just wait a couple days more to see how she acts.

The wife thinks I may be over-thinking it too much. I guess if she feels a little sick then she will just want to stay nice and warm on the bed and sleep. I assume that sleep does a cat just as much as it does for us? She loves the heating blanket. Also I guess whenever we feel ill we don't run straight out to the doctors right? I just don't want to take her and scare her even more if it something small and she just feels a bit off.

Thanks for any tips

Jeremy

As long as she is still eating at least half of what she normally eats and there is no vomiting then I would probably give it another day.  It's so hard to tell with kitties because they hide discomfort so well.  A cat that is in a lot of distress will usually quit eating.

Perhaps she is just a little extra tired. From how you describe it I can't speak to anything in particular. Maybe just give her a couple days and if her routine and actions still seem off, go ahead and take her in. At least for your own piece of mind. You know your animal better then anyone. Cats a very good at hiding discomfort or physical ailment. Don't mean to make you paranoid or anything but as I said you know your animal best. If she still seems off in a few days, do what you think is best.

That's a very good sign! Cats can get illness's too, and may be 'off' for a week, but as long as she is eating, drinking, and going to the bathroom all right I'd bet she will be fine. Maybe she's bored, or depressed? More cat nip would help! Oh, another question, how old is she? This behavior for a kitten could be alarming, but for an adult it would be normal for them to seek heat and rest during the winter. Good luck and keep us posted!

How old is she?  I'm more of the wait and see person unless there is extreme lethargy coupled with lack of eating, playing, and change in litter box habits.

Since you mention that she's not eating as normally and she's a senior kitty, I would probably get her to the vet and get a senior panel done on her to assess her kidney function and rule out anything medically wrong.  However, she may have a mouth ulcer that's causing her not to want to eat as much, too.  With her age, I'd be making a trip to the vet.

With her age you might want to have her checked out and possibly have a Senior Panel ran.  Cats are really good at hiding their illnesses.

Hi Guys.

Just a follow up. I was going to take her to the vet today but she seems to be getting better on here own. She ate last night ( and drank ) and went pee in the litter box. She hasnt poop since Sunday but thats kind of normal for her as she only really goes every other day its rare for her to go everyday.

She also ran around playing last night and was squawking at us this morning to get up and jumping all over the bed. I will still keep a eye on her for a couple days. But I dont think that she needs the vet right now, plus I dont want to scare her and stress her out for nothing.

It would be different if she wasnt eating at all or was throwing up.

Great to hear! Just keep on observing her litter box habits. If you find her not pooping and her tummy starts to feel more plump then normal or hard take her to the vet. There maybe some back up. It does sound like she is passed the worst of it though. Again, best of luck for you. Glad the kitty is getting better.

Hi Guys

Just thought I would drop in another update.

She seems to be coming around, eating and drinking ( still not alot but more and more each day ) and using the litter box ( pee and poop ) and meowing at us at 2:00am while crawling all over us while the wife and I try to sleep only to jump into our bed when we get up for her normal 9 hour nap,lol

Thanks,

The eating and drinking is slowly coming back, at least she is eating and drinking. Still lazy during the day but that is normal for her anyways. She is up during the night, got up last night and she was staring at a spider on the ceiling, I swear thats her hobby is to watch for spiders on the ceiling in the night

Also shes not doing much eating during the day, only at night. But if I take the food and water and put it in front of her she will eat and drink sometimes. Is she just being lazy now knowing I will take it to her?,lol

She is still acting a little strange, not eating and drinking. Might just try to get in tomorrow just for peace of mind.

The hardest thing we have is trying to get her into the cage? any tips

My kitties all love going in the carrier, I trained them as kittens to get used to it.  They load easily in it.  Maybe try putting some canned food in the carrier in the back of it?  Or something she really likes like tuna or catnip?

Aww, I hope she's okay!  To get her in the carrier you can try food, you can toss a favorite treat in there, in the past I've just had to stuff a cat in them.  Don't feel too bad if you end up having to stuff her in; it happens sometimes!  I know you are worried about stressing her out, but just keep in mind that this stress is all for a very good reason.  Talk to her, and try to stay calm yourself because animals can sense that anxious, tensed feeling you get when you are anticipating a struggle.  Act like it's no big deal, leave the carrier out for a while before putting her in, maybe get her to play around it if she feels like it.

Thanks for the tips guys

She has a appointment at 4pm today. She drank water and ate some food this morning. And was playing last night. I just don't know why she doesn't want to eat and drink as much as usual. Hopefully the vet will be able to figure it out.

They wont want to keep her will they? as there is nobody there at night and can only imagine that it would be less stressful on her to be home with us.
