My fiance's cat died yesterday morning. He had her since he was in junior high which was nearly 17 years ago. He told me he regrets not being with her when she died and for feeling too ashamed to express openly to her due to his family's presence. He wanted her to feel loved before she passed. He wanted to say I love you and comfort her the way she always did him. Instead she died with her eyes opened and with a sad expression on her face. He told me she was connected to his soul.

I'm so sorry for your Fiance's loss.

Saying the words out loud even though she's gone may help him, because l believe that cats do have souls, and that they look down on the people that love them

Have fun at the Bridge, Bell

Please make him aware that Bell definitely knew she was loved, she could feel it in his presence and with every beat of his heart. For 17 years she had his love and I'm so happy she had that many years on this earth to love him in return. She will live on in his heart and being a part of his soul, she'll hear every word he speaks to her now. Have him rejoice in the love those two shared , not dwell on the circumstances of the parting. Please tell him them there are many who share his pain and have been through the pain of losing a beloved pet , we will help him in any way we can. Take care of yourselves, only a true man feels the pain of losing an innocent animal deep in his soul, and I pray he is blessed for doing so. RIP beautiful Bell!

My condolences. Cats don't need words to know your emotions, so Bell could feel his love for her, as she had for 17 years. RIP, Bell.

I am so sorry for his loss.  I am sure she knew she was loved.  Often with kitties less is more when it comes to our expressions of love for them.

I'm very sorry.  It was wonderful that she had someone in her life like your fiance.  She knew how much he loved her.

Thank you everyone for all the support. It really broke his heart to bury her. He put a blindfold over her still open eyes and put her face in the direction of the sunlight. Up until this point he never spoke of her true age. I learned from others that she wasn't the two year cat he always proclaimed her to be. I guess he wanted to believe she would be with him forever. It wasn't until a few days ago he stopped being in denial that she was really dying. She wasn't eating anymore and the previous vet visits had only prolonged her suffering. Him and I were considering euthanasia but she died before we could make the trip. Even with all the sadness I truly believe in my heart that she's in a better place. Sometimes when you love someone you let them go because it's their time and they can be free from the pain.

You are so right, and I'm happy she got to die at home, where all kitties love to be. You've got a wonderful compassionate fiance, there aren't too many out there like him. Good luck and God bless!

I'm sorry to hear about that. Good luck to you too. It's hard sometimes money wise I completely understand. Hope she can pull through this. :)
