Hi there, I have a small problem and I was wondering if anyone has any ideas. My wife and I have a 3 year old male cat by the name of Junior. We picked up another kitty (4 month old female tortie named Chloe) We introduced them to one another, there was a little hissing from Junior at first but he seemed not to mind the new kitty. We even saw him licking her then he would bite the back of her neck (a sign of dominance on his part) The problem we have now is that he isn't as affectionate as usual towards us, we figure that he is mad at us for bringing home a stranger. Also, he hasn't been eating and drinking very much and all he seems to do now is sleep. He won't play with any of his favorite toys. We had the vet check out the new kitty and she didn't find anything that could've been passed on to Junior. Is this just a sign that Junior is mad at us for bringing home another cat or could there be something wrong with him? If he is still acting this way in a coupe of days we will take him to the vet to get him checked over. Just wondering if anyone else has gone through this? Or maybe we introduced them to fast? We really love both of our kitties but Junior is our baby (we raised him since he was 2 weeks old) and it really hurts us to see him like this, before we brought Chloe home there was nothing wrong with Junior. Please help any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If junior is stressed, stress can and will make a cat sick and rather quickly. Not eating or drinking at all is a concern, eating and drinking a little bit depending on how little is also a concern. I would take Junior to the vet to be safe.

Thanks Hissy, I really shouldn't say he isn't eating. He would rather eat the kitty's food rahter than his own. You are right though, we should still have the vet check him out. I'll call in the morning and make an appointment for him.

That is actually pretty common. Try mixing his food and kitty food together and feed him that way. But if he isn't eating or drinking, or gets lethargic or can't use the litter pan take him in straight=away. You have upset his balance in his life bringing in an interloper.

Yes, Hissy has given me good advice for our problem. I'm glad you like the kitty in my sig, but that isn't Junior. This is Junior.
