This afternoon I was reading a book when my phone alerted me to a tornado warning. I opened up Weather.gov to see a polygon directly over my area.

The building I live in used to be a cotton mill. Built in 1844, it was operational until 1996... when a tornado ripped the roof off. And I live on the top floor.

Needless to say, it was unnerving. Luckily the warning passed without incident and the only damage from the storm was a downed tree across the road.

Have you had any dramatic or otherwise really stressful situations recently? How did things turn out?

For me I find all things medical extremely stressful. I had two medical tests last week and I was a bundle of nerves until I got the results. Both came back fine. :)

Thankfully nothing recently.  However, last year, the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy really tested me.  Not only were we out of heat/electricity for a week but, there was no way to get into NYC for my job for many days (trains not working) and, my company wound up being displaced.  The first week was spent cooking in the dark (thankfully, we have a gas stove so we were able to light it), shivering under piles of blankets at night, trying to find places to keep our phones charged, lighting fires (which barely helped) and keep the car gassed up.  The second week, I managed to get back to work, but I'm the office manager, so was one of the people responsible for planning to move our office to another temporary location - quickly.

We were lucky that it wasn't worse for us, so many lost their homes or had severe damage to them, lost jobs, etc., but it was very challenging.  My boyfriend said he was amazed at how I managed to keep it together, since he himself was really not doing very well emotionally living the way we were.  But, I've always been calm and collected in general, so while it was seriously stressful, I managed to sail through it.

I had blood work for possible multiple myeloma back in September and I was an absolute mess til I got those results back. Negative, thank goodness.

I don't handle stress well.

It's been a stressful holiday. I had to find a way to pay for school/books, had a health scare, been sick with a bad case of sinuses/ears/bronchitis, a close friend had a procedure done but had multiple complications...I'm actually glad school's about to start.

Hi there!:wavey:
Nice question, and glad that you take calm down the things...:)

well, I was lucky last year, cause I can get at least one version from the Iphones (the simply 4 I got, not the 4s) so, there an app for the Earthquakes of my country, last year I have a lot of bussiness trips to the capital of my country, (mexico) and I was in the middle of some Earthquakes, I never have those experience before cause i live very far from the place where usually are earthquakes on my country, so this was new for me but that alert help me to get out of the building where i was working, so that was great to know that at least you´re feeling more less safe about...:sweet:

Now I have the app of : NOOA for the hurricane alerts...

happy #sundayfunday :wavey:

I had high blood pressure for a week, it was bad enough it was giving me severe headaches, causing breathing issues and even blurry vision.  I was almost at the visit the emergency room NOW numbers.  I saw my Dr last Wednesday and got on meds for it, but it was extremely nerve wracking.

warning: hospice & death topic

My mother had a stroke on Dec. 6 and was put in hospice care the next morning. On Dec, 9 she was kidnapped from her bed in the night without her oxygen, morphine, or anti-anxiety drugs. We didn't know where she was, or her condition, or even if she was still alive all through Christmas and up until a week ago. Despite the efforts of the police and Adult Protective Services, no one could find her. My brother and his son are the ones who took her, then hid her in a hospital trying to keep her alive because the son had recently applied for guardianship to get control of her property. (Brother is a convicted felon and would not have a chance of guardianship, so he's using his son.) Brother and his son showed illegal papers saying they had medical POA and guardianship over her, and the hospital did not know there were other family members looking for her.

My mother is in a vegetative state and completely unresponsive, the tests showed very little brain activity. My brother is having her tube-fed along with all emergency life-saving measures. (She has been released from the hospital and is in a care center now.) For years, she has congestive heart failure, severe dementia, diabetes, and found out yesterday she has now developed pneumonia. Her teeth are clenched and she has not been able to speak or eat since the stroke. Her eyes are usually closed but open now and then in an unresponsive stare. She is hunched into the fetal position and appears to be in pain. Any hopes of a peaceful passing for her are now gone. My sister and I are doing everything we can.

The guardianship hearing is tomorrow - the rest of the family has contested it. You don't kidnap someone and keep her hidden from the rest of her family and expect to be put in charge of her! My sister and I have been taking care of our mother and her finances and bills, etc. for five years and there is no need for a guardian now at the end of her life. I don't know why my life has to always be so strange.

I cannot imagine.  I'm praying it all works out for her best!

It ended up there was no hearing after all since my brother (and his son) FINALLY want to negotiate! What they brought to the table is very workable for my sister and I. It's legit, too, now sworn in front of a judge and everything, so they can't back out or decide not to sign the agreement, like they have done in the past. The only thing we lost was we can't put our mother back on hospice care for 90 days. It is doubtful she will live that long, hospice would make her end more comfortable but I guess that ship has sailed anyway. Also, we had it wrong, my brother is worn out and it's his son who has been pushing for all this medical stuff for my mother. In the courtroom the son was acting like a crazy person (whining and insisting) and he has no shot of ever becoming guardian, even his attorneys had to tell him to stop talking. This is such good news and it looks like the end of almost 5 years of battles with them.

I really appreciate the good wishes!
