My tuxedo cat Wren scratches, grooms, and nibbles herself often. She has started developing scabbing along her back.

I got rid of all the fleas that were invading my place last summer. What could be her issue?

My tuxedo girl has really bad food allergies. She'll pull all the hair out along her back if she eats something with her allergens in it. Try a grain free food with a novel protein like beef or fish for a while and see if she improves. If it is food allergies it will take a few weeks to see improvement.

If it is allergies like food allergies you want to feed a diet that contains ingredients that your cat hasn't had before such as venison or duck.  No treats etc for 12 weeks.  That will usually help if it's food allergies.

Are you sure you got rid of the fleas? Do you have a flea comb? How did you get rid of them?

What if I were to give her just wet food and not give her any dry food?

I got rid of them by using drops on the cats and Raid Carpet Flea and Tick spray in all the rooms

Wet food can have some of the ingredients that are common allergens in cats: chicken, wheat gluten, corn, so as long as you watch out for those ingredients IMO canned is healthier for cats anyways.

Sounds good. Have you checked the fur with a flea comb?
No I haven't

My other cat isn't as bad as Wren with all the scratching, grooming, and nibbling. I've started feeding Wren all wet food cause I noticed the dry food has gluten corn in it. She's started quieting down now and not nibbling as much.

Wren got rid of the scabbing on her back now. I've been feeding her 1 can of Iams wet food a day. Canned foods have been fish based. I looked at dry foods to see which ones were gluten free and the only one I found was Iams Proactive Health. Proactive Health is meant for seniors but as I said, was the only gluten free dry food I found.
