Any idea what this could be? It just seems a little swollen and/or a little bald in the last few days, and is forming crusty bits as if it's watering a little. It doesn't seem to be bothering her.

My previous cat had this and it developed into a sudden severe respiratory infection and she had to be pts at 18 months old... nothing that the vet could do... so admittedly that has made me paranoid.

Thanks.

First of all, does your cat go outside? Could she have gotten it scratched in something/ or by another cat? From the picture it doesn't look like it, but can't tell for sure. If not, it could be Feline Herpes.

Most cats have the Feline Herpes Virus.  Some will get a URI, & some only have issues w/ their eyes.  It's best to get diagnosed by a vet, to be sure of what your dealing with, & that nothing has gotten in her eye.

My cat Angel has it, like many cats on here do. Fortunately,  the vet said his lungs sound good, but he has had to have Rx eye drops.

He was on them about every few months or so the first two years he was w/ me.

His "3rd eye" would show, & it would be pink. I could just look at him & tell.

What is recommended for this virus, & what I started doing is supplementing w/ Lysine.

(amazon has the best prices, I have found great deals on the "now" brand).

The recommended dosing is 250 mg. 2xs/day. When there is an outbreak, double that to 500 mg. 2xs/day.

Most capsules are 500 mg. so I give 1/2 of one in his breakfast, & the other 1/2 in dinner.

(or if having an outbreak, a whole one ea. meal for approx. 2 wks, or until better).

It usually takes a couple of weeks to start seeing a difference, but every cat is different.

*Again, it's best to get a vet to look at it to be sure, & get a proper diagnosis.

Good luck, keep us posted.

Thanks for your reply.

She has never been outside but she fights sometimes (playfully but it can get out of hand) with my other cat.

She has a flea allergy, so I'm not sure if it could be related to that somehow? There are no fleas at the moment as I make sure to control that, but maybe her skin is sensitive in general?

I hope it's not that virus :/ I will look into that supplement though and will take her to the vet on Monday if no improvement.

She has had the vaccine against cat flu though so hopefully it isn't that virus. But then so had my other cat that died... :/

You can try the lysine, but I think she really needs to see a vet, she could have scratched her eye somehow or have an infection.
