I got Oliver a toothbrush and poultry-flavored toothpaste today. I put some paste on my finger for him to try and he took to it like it's a treat! I put a little on the brush and he got all excited for it. He was totally treating it like a spoon, but I'm confident that after a couple of weeks or so, I'll be brushing his teeth with no problems.

Do you brush your cat's teeth?

Congratularions on finding the new healthy daily treat option!
Mouse is still the same after nearly 2 1/2 years of twice a day sessions.   All I need to do is say 'Tooth time' all cute, or go get out the paste tube and the finger brush and he's there beside me on the counter with his nose at the brush.  He can even get it as a treat after medication sometimes, like when he needs eye drops that he doesn't like.

Wow, twice a day!  That's great!  Now I feel bad, because I'm lucky if I get it done twice a week.  In fact I just did it earlier today.

Angel is pretty good about it. He loves the malt flavor from Pet Smart. I say, "Brush Brush treat time." I put him up on the washing machine, as it's a great height

like the vets table. He does pretty good w/ the little red brush that comes w/ his paste. I run it under warm water before starting.

I also let him lick a little off the brush before I start. I start w/ his front fangs to prepare him, then, I lift each side of his lips to get in & down the sides of his teeth.

I usually can get each side a couple of times.

I will confess to only doing the active brushing once a day these days as Mouse's mouth is in much better shape than it used to be (fingers crossed and touching wood as I type that).  I let him lick the tiny spot of paste off the brush for one of the sessions, either way he's fine and when I brush he sits on the kitchen counter good as gold. @Angels mommy, it sounds like you have a great technique going there.  Cute idea warming the brush too!

Thanks!  yes, the brush is already soft, but it can't be too soft.
He's due for a cleaning. (It's been 2 or 3 yrs.)  I have been saving up for a while now.

(I wanted to save 300.00,  sense the last time, he had to have two extractions,  both on the bottom, in the middle. It was 295.00 all together, so I just wanted to be prepared.

They said the cleanings start at 275.00 & up. I am waiting for February when they are always on special!
