Hi,

Hoping that someone can give me some advice.

I have a 6 month old male who managed to cut his rear left leg just before Xmas. No idea how! A trip to the vets resulted in gluing the wound and I cleaned and dressed the wound until healed.

However, he now doesn't want to put any weight on it. He can still get around (including running and climbing) and doesn't appear to be in any pain. Can anybody advise how I can encourage him to use it more?

Many thanks in advance.

Leave it to him, as long as the wound is getting better and is sealed up then over time he will use it more and more. Try getting him to play around and he will put more weight on it and after a while he will forget to favour it. This is as long as you can see it is healing and everything looks healthy.

It might be a good idea to give your vet a call to see what they think. Hopefully it is just that his leg was sore when he injured it, but cats generally don't show pain unless it is severe and if he is still limping I would want to speak to the vet to check out if there could be an infection or other complication that should be checked out.  Are you able to handle and touch your cat to tell if there is any reaction if you touch anywhere near the area where he was injured, or if you try to move that limb for him?

Fingers crossed your cat is attention seeking and looking for extra sympathy snacks, but always better to check these things out.

Hi MServant,

Thank you for your message.

He's fine with being handled and will also let me move the leg and touch where the cut was. He gets treats/snacks rarely so I don't think that it's that. I am concerned about if it's a ligament issue but he will let me move and straighten it without any fuss.

Did the vet take xrays?:  How deep was the cut?  My thinking is that he might have damaged a ligament or injured the bone somehow.

Hi all,

Very much appreciate your help.

MServant, there's only furniture to climb which he manages with a jump and front paws action so its difficult to monitor.

We're going to take him for x-rays.

Yes, definitely think he needs a thorough examination.  Good to hear you are going to take him along to your vet.   I hope it is something which can he easily sorted and not too stressful for kitty - or you for that matter.

Hope you are able to let us know how it goes and will look out for any updates.
