I woke up to do Layla's feed at 5am and noticed that she was breathing fast and heavy like she has been running for ages so I fed her and she only had a bit but she fell asleep on my chest but her breathing is really fast still and it's been over an hour

Any advice please?

I believe this is a vet errand.  Asap. Had you get hold on a really good kitten vet?

If not, return to your old half good vet.

If it is not so she is crashing by some defect, so it may be pneumonia.   which happens easily in bottle feed kittens.

If so, she needs antibiotics asap, to have a chance.

Good luck!     *vibes!*

Be sure she has it warm.  The sick ones are always freezing, no?

Having her at your chest is a good trick, continue so if you can.

The vet opens at 9 so I will b there there and it will have to b with the old vet as the nearest vet is 45miles away :(

Layla is in her bed sleepin and mischief is keepin her warm but she is warm to touch

I don't want to put her in her cat box when we go to the vet as it can get cold fast so if I keep her in a cover and up on my chest will that b ok?

Yes, having her at your chest during the transport is surely ideal.  Prepare perhaps a sack to have her in, so you dont need to handheld her at your chest.

Pneumonias are quite common with bottlefed babies....

I wish you and Layla all well.

*vibes!*

I can't stop crying it hurts so much
I understand you so well.  It was  several VERY intense weeks for you,  with 24/7  total mental and physical tension.

Even I, who  not at all had the same burden,  did wept several times during the  day.

My comfort is a  idea I had got for you.   When you are back again.

You had learned so much here.  Was your efforts in wain?     Nay.

Could you please be a fosterer and rescuer  on small kittens?   Cooperate with some shelter.  Perhaps even a high kill shelter.  And help them with these small kittens  needing help and rescue.

You know you will have help  from your motherly  Mischef.   And you will have use of your experiences.  And our support.

This way these deaths,  Layla´s long fight for life,  will not be in wain.

You couldnt save Layla nor Lilly.  But you can save others.

Im deeply feeling with you.  Take care of yourself, I repeat this.

Many warm hugs

I'm so very. very sorry for you to go through this, I know the agony is almost unbearable at first. You did all you could, and beyond, sometimes it's just not meant to be. She didn't suffer, and for this I am glad, she knew that you loved her very much. She was such a beautiful little soul, it isn't fair she left so young. Please take care of yourself and know we are here if you need to talk or need comfort, we'll do all we can. I'll pray for you both to find peace, bless you for caring so much. RIP beautiful Layla!

How very sorry I am of the news, so sorry for what you are going through now, you tried your best, we all know that here, and surely Lilly always knew too. You were her mum, she knew she was loved and cared for, and wanted.

I can't help but to relate to her story and struggle, as well as your heartache now for losing the fight for her life.

Sadly being in rescue I have dealt with loss more than I care to talk about, it's something we can not change. But Lilly reminds me of my little Baby Bear. One little girl that I still keep tucked away inside my heart. I got her at 3 weeks old, a tiny long haired all black girl, she had calicivirus, and I fought for 2 months, day and night for her. Syringe feeding, meds, fluids, sleeping with her on my chest, vet visits, just so much energy out of me emotionally to save her.

2 months is a long time when it is so intense, the memory of seeing her try to play, but then stop and come back to me, she wanted to be better so badly, feel good, normal, healthy.

I lost her in the end, she just didn't have enough fight in her teeny body to pull through it. She is buried outside my window with a baby rose plant.

I know the feeling of questioning yourself, what if's, if only's, I should have's, all that. The look in her eyes of trust and hope and love. So dependent on you.

I know the feeling of failure, but in time you will know in your heart, there was nothing you could do to change the outcome. Some babies are just not meant to be here long. But she came to learn from. She touched your heart and will always be there.

Big hugs. It's going to hurt for a while. Little white bunny doll, she can now be the playful, healthy kitten she is meant to be, out of sight but remains in your heart,  leaving her failing little body behind.

I see I was calling her what her mum's name was, Lilly. Sad for Lilly too, but I meant to say Layla, sorry.

You know who I mean though :)

Hang in there, the first days hurt the most.
