Hound & Gatos is fairly caloric, too, which is good for a kitten.

just a note about hound and gatos.. the other day i thought i would try out the chicken flavor for my cat.

At first he refused to eat it.(Also i noticed it was kind of like a jello consistency and had a really strong odor. The next day i mixed it in with his usual food and he ate it so i did that today as well. Now today he has thrown up twice. I think its the food causing this and now im quite concerned for my cat. The can has gone in the garbage and my cat is back on regular food. I will be watching him very closely for the next couple days and if i get one more vomit hes off to the vet.

Hmmm, I'm thinking you got an off can maddies momma maddies momma . That does happen from time to time. I've had it with Wellness once and had to throw out the can. At almost $4 a can, I was quite displeased to do so. But it's worth trusting your cat's reactions. Trouble is, one of my cats is a real fussy little so-and-so, and so if he turned up his nose at something I wouldn't be surprised. But Pushy is a piglet, so when he refused to it as well, I knew something was wrong. Plus it didn't look or smell that great. I've also had trouble with the PetValu brand Performatrin. Pushy will eat it, but only reluctantly so I haven't bought any more of those cans. I haven't had issues with Hound and Gatos though.

How is your cat today?

The Hound and Gatos chicken doesn't smell very good to begin with! We tried it on our cats for a while and they ate it but weren't especially enthusiastic about it. We only feed them the lamb now, which they love.

He is doing much better today. I definitely wont be feeding him any more hound and gatos though. Something about it just doesnt agree with my cat. But thanks for the insight though!

I tried Hound and Gatos for the first time today. I tried the pork (I know, I should have done chicken or something), and Ghibli wouldn't touch it. He licked it and walked away.... I thought it looked really good! Nice and creamy and smooth looking pate. I thought he would like it as he seems to like the foods with no fruits or veggies. Debating if it's even worth it to try another flavor ... :(

I really wish he liked this food because I REALLY approve of the ingredients. He has become sooooo picky since I first got him from the shelter (he would eat anything then). The only foods that he likes that I know of right now are Sheba (chicken and turkey), all Tiki Cat, Nutro Natural (only the pates), All weruva, and Fancy feast classics.... He stopped eating Wild Calling (still upset about that). Ugh.

You might want to give the other flavors a try, just in case: our cats also wouldn't touch the H and G pork, hated the beef, and were iffy about the chicken and chicken/lamb/salmon. But they've loved the lamb for a year or two. And Hound and Gatos is good food that's not super-expensive!

Ours cats also settled into preferring certain brands -- some the same as Ghibli seems to like -- after eating everything in their initial months with us, post-shelter. Ah, cats!

Really? Okay I will. I'm assuming they have turkey? Usually he always likes turkey flavors. He never did like lamb, though :(. I know! I love the price of H&G!

Seriously though! He also used to eat anything raw from rad cat. Now all he will touch is the TURKEY! I tried a lamb and chicken sample today and he wanted to have nothing to do with them. He likes raw rabbit from NVI, but they stopped making the Medallions! And it's so expensive. Ugh.

No, there's no turkey, which is very unfortunate. And Ghibli is getting very fickle to give up on Rad Cat flavors, too! Then again, our cats totally refuse the RC lamb. Will not eat it at all. But they still love the H&G lamb!

I'm joining this post quite late, but wanted to add my two cents worth because I  have been feeding Hound & Gatos to my cats for over 2 years. They don't like all the flavors but they do like the lamb and the pork. One of my kitties has IBD which seems to have resulted from an allergy to beef (which is actually common in cats). I subsequently put him on an exclusive diet of H & G lamb and he's doing much better. Overall I am quite pleased with H & G, I really like the basic ingredients. The food agrees very well with all my cats.

The only negative comment is the food's appearance, which often changes. I understand this is due to the absence of carrageenan, which is a good thing.  But I do question the appearance when it changes radically from can to can in the same case. This just happened with the latest case of pork: I've been buying this flavor for over 2 years and it has always looked the same, i.e. pink and firm. When I opened the first can from the most recent case, I was surprised to see the contents were brown, soft , and there was considerable jelly in the can.  The second can I opened was the usual pink, firm variety.   This made me wonder so  I called the company. I spoke to the owner and he assured me the food was fine, it was the same binding issue (or rather, lack of binding).

The lamb often contains black and sometimes even green bits. If you were a first time purchaser, you would probably think the food is bad, after all....green lamb? But the truth is the food is fine. Simply ignore the strange look, mash it up and rainbow colors disappear.

I would recommend H& G to anyone looking for a high quality cat food, and I would especially recommend it if you have a cat with food allergies.
